Justin and I saw the movie Saturday. So very sad, when one knows that it is based upon what really happened to those men..

That's on the Yarnell hotshots? I want to see it, I've read a lot about the firefighters, the survivor, and the impact on the community.

Granite Mountain HotShots but they died in the Yarnell fire. They're based out of Prescott so there were really close to where you're at.

I had never heard of this sad story and what happened, I must have been under a rock that month.

I read MANY stories today, and watched endless videos of the funeral procession of so many hearses coming "home". So sad.

I'm interested in seeing it. Firefighters IMO don't get enough credit. They jump straight into the Apocalypse.

Yes, Prescott is working on a memorial site for them. That was such a grave loss to a smallish community. Prescott is 'big' around here, but still around 45k.

Fire can spread VERY fast. Most folks would underestimate how quickly the fire can spread and jump around during events like happened here. You couldn't pay me enough to fight fires like that, let alone volunteer.

Screw THAT noise. They get plenty of credit from those that know what they face every time they suit up.

I'd rather re-deploy back to SW Asia or Africa. It's safer.

It was extremely hard to watch because I knew the story and because of all the fires in my hometown in Sonoma County. Watching the fire scenes and imagining it racing through my old neighborhoods was heart wrenching.

    Great movie.

    Great movie.
Did the fires ever get around Monterey/Ft Ord? Lived there 3 different times as a kid. The old man was a linguist in the USAF. I kinda liked it there. Odd, all that 60s-early 70s hippy crap was going on there all three times I lived there and I never knew it

I always wait until they come out on disc, hopefully 4K.

Thanks for the heads up about this movie.

This just appeared on my FB:

    Cottonwood Arizona Police Department

    4 hrs ·

Today (06/30/2018) at 1642 hours (4:42 pm) Fire Dispatch will send tones, an announcement and a moment of silence in remembrance of the Granite Mountain 19 Hotshots.
The announcement: “At this time, 5 years ago today, the fire service lost 19 of its best in the hills above Yarnell. We respectfully ask that all members of our local fire agencies take a moment of silence to commemorate the lives of the 19 Granite Mountain Hot Shots.”
    Pause….19 seconds
“Thank you Granite Mountain….we’ll take it from here” … “Alarm Clear 1642 hours.”

Saw the movie a few months ago.... a really good one! and yeah, brave mean doing scary, risky stuff. I am pretty familiar with the breed....
