Smile Us speaker ryan wants to fix possible legal gaps on guns and mental health by reuters

WASHINGTON - US House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan said on Thursday lawmakers should close any possible legal gaps that may allow the mentally ill to obtain guns, as the country reeled from a school shooting that killed 17 and a year after Congress ended expanded background checks tied to mental health problems.

"As you know mental health is often a big problem underlying these tragedies," he told reporters. "We want to make sure that if someone is in the mental health system that they do not get a gun if they should not have a gun."

Last year, Congress passed a resolution that eliminated expanded background checks for gun purchasers receiving Social Security benefits for a mental impairment, which Republican lawmakers had said deprived the mentally ill of their gun rights. Because the resolution, signed by President Donald Trump on February 28, 2017, was passed under the Congressional Review Act regulators can never enact similar requirements in the future.

Ryan is one of those NEOCONS that just needs to go. Talk about swaying whichever way the breeze blows. He didn't even need to say anything; yet, decided to sound like a little Polly sitting on Trump's shoulder echoing the boss. What a bowl of Jell-O

Yeah he's a real ass pimple. There was a good guy that challenged him last midterm but little RINO Ryan won anyway.

For the life of me, I don't know how these turds keep getting reelected. I wouldn't vote for the fucker if he was in my district.

Didn't he start whining he wasn't running again like the day after he got the Speaker job? I WANT him to not miss that time with his family. Geez ... he's in the House and his twim, no-chin MFer is in the Senate. McConnel needs to retire to FL with the rest of his d0-nothing, Contract with America holdovers from the 90s.

Well, watch out what you wish for, because if Ryan retires, what that really means is that he's running for president! I don't know that I would support him for that.

I didn't vote for him when he ran for VP with Romney.

I don't think Ryan could even split the party at this point the way he's acted the past year. I just thought I had heard at one point he liked his family time and didn't want to be Speaker of the House and reluctantly accepted.

Doesn't sound like anyone that wants to take on an even bigger load.

But -------- on the thread topic, Ryan making statements about fixing the total, complete lack of anyone dealing with the guns and crazies problem like this Florida kid that EVERYBODY knew was a whacko -----

Trump is making a lot of such statements too and so are newscasters and everyone with their ears to the ground. Because I think the Right is rising: seriously. I hear rightwing statements I NEVER heard the public say before and people are not backing down an inch to the gun-grabbers. I'm amazed to see that, finally.

A forum I post on with leftist mods is in meltdown over the Florida shooting and my mouth just hangs open seeing what people are saying from the right, and I've been on forums for decades. People have found their courage. And I'm right in there firing away, so I expect to be banned: already got mods writing me. Aaaaarrrrrrrrgh. So now I have to find another forum besides this one, which I consider my home forum; I am looking for a specialized prepper forum. One that isn't on Facebook Groups, as I don't like Facebook.

He won't run for president, he's much too sensitive.

And when he stops running for congress, that seat will be filled with a dem. Believe it.

Take a lesson from Ryan. Your name calling, especially this early in the day is a sign of weakness.

    There's a happy thought.......

However, remember that Ryan did run for vice president. I expect him to try for prez -- I guess we'll see.
