    Default Pope: There is no Hell. Catholics? Thoughts?

    IF the pope's words are essentially gospel....what say you?

    https://www.cnsnews.com/blog/michael...-there-no-hell

    Scalfari says to the Pope, "Your Holiness, in our previous meeting you told me that our species will disappear in a certain moment and that God, still out of his creative force, will create new species. You have never spoken to me about the souls who died in sin and will go to hell to suffer it for eternity. You have however spoken to me of good souls, admitted to the contemplation of God. But what about bad souls? Where are they punished?"

    Pope Francis says, "They are not punished, those who repent obtain the forgiveness of God and enter the rank of souls who contemplate him, but those who do not repent and cannot therefore be forgiven disappear. There is no hell, there is the disappearance of sinful souls."
    “… the greatest detractor from high performance is fear: fear that you are not prepared, fear that you are in over your head, fear that you are not worthy, and ultimately, fear of failure. If you can eliminate that fear—not through arrogance or just wishing difficulties away, but through hard work and preparation—you will put yourself in an incredibly powerful position to take on the challenges you face" - Pete Carroll.

    I read this a few hours back on my cell, sitting at stop and shop, and just kinda shook my head. I don't like a lot of his stances and I think he makes things up as he goes and often ignores the holy bible.

Need I say more?” - Chris Rock

    I think its not about ignoring the Bible. Because the Bible doesn't exactly talk about eternal torment and punishment - but actually speaks to the idea Hell and Death will be ended and consumed by God.

    But the issue is - When religions declare their leaders infallible and their words on par with scripture, they can turn on their heads when they get somebody like this pope.

    I really avoid discussions of religion. I am a christian and believe in the Holy bible.
    I do not attend a church these days, but worship what God created....the mountains,
    rivers, streams, trees.

    That far surpasses a building that is created to gather people that on one day,
    think they are highly holier than others; yet in daily life are just as sinful and wicked as
    those they deny.

    Hell is there as is Limbo, as is Heaven.

    I am haunted nightly by spirits and I am not a delusional person that is prone
    to imagination.

    I have lost my mind. If found, please give it a snack and return it?

    I kinda think we arent so sinful or wicked. Or if we are it ultimately doesn't matter because in the same way Adam gave all sin to mankind, Christ removed all sin from mankind. Yeah - hitler and stuff - but I dunno about that - but i know if we love people, and love God - even if we call him Allah - but truly love him and others....that's what's really important. At least it was to christ.

    I think the poop is HOPING there isn't a hell, because he doesn't want to end up in it for some of his blasphemous statements, and him being called "The Holy Father."

    A pope can't be blasphemous though. That's the thing. He's ordained and he is infallible - but i am no expert; could be wrong.

    Hel is a place in Nordic mythology beyond the River Styx where dead souls go. It's guarded by a 3-headed frikkin' dog.

    The "modern" Christian accepted definition of Hell is straight out of Dante's "Inferno". Interesting but weird read. Dark Ages material.

    The notion that the Pope can redefine the afterlife as it suits him would be considered heresy during the Inquisitions/Dark Ages. Never ceases to amaze me how Man recreates God to suit the beliefs of his society at the time.

    Something to ponder.

    A few years ago, Pope Francis gave an address to Congress during the reign of Obama The Pius. The next day, on my way into work, I was approached by a hard left Teamster Union steward. He got in my face and proudly proclaimed, "So how about that Pope! He agrees with Obama's economic and environmental policies! You claim to be religious and now the leader of the largest number of Christians in the world is in agreement with the political views that you disagree with. So what does that make you?" I looked at him, shrugged and simply said, "A Lutheran" and kept walking. He grabbed my arm and said, "What's that supposed to mean?" I said, "We believe the Pope has been talking out his ass for the last 500 years." The confused, stupid look on his face was priceless.

    The socialist Pope is at it again.
    `When he’s not preaching open borders, from behind a YUGE wall which keeps him safe, he’s attacking everything our “America First” president stands for.
    However, not only is he attacking President Trump, now he’s going after Catholic Trump supporters as well.
    The Vatican, riddled with child molestation charges, has found time to once again stick their noses into our affairs.
    Now, apparently, if you’re Catholic and voted for Trump, you’re a racist and an Islamophobe.
    Trump supporters, sick of the fake news and name-calling, struck back online, reminding the Pope to mind his own damn business and worry about HIS OWN ISSUES.`

    Coming from you, brother... I'm a little surprised at that statement.

    I think you're baiting me for my reply, and you got it... OK... the Pope is a man, he is ordained by man... he is NOT ordained by GOD. What comes out of this "man's" mouth is earthly, it is the opinion of a MAN, not GOD, and it can be WRONG. It makes no difference your "stature" as a person, Pope, Cardinal, local preacher, whatever, when they start inflecting their "opinion" as what the Bible says when it is patently AGAINST what is written in the Bible, then they are no longer purveyours of the word of God.

    I wouldn't want to be them... in the end.

    I'm not baiting anything. I'm saying according to the catholic church, the pope's leadership is infallible. According to them he's set in place by God and thus is suitable for teaching and all that.

    From wikipedia

    Papal infallibility is a dogma of the Catholic Church that states that, in virtue of the promise of Jesus to Peter, the Pope is preserved from the possibility of error "when, in the exercise of his office as shepherd and teacher of all Christians, in virtue of his supreme apostolic authority, he defines a doctrine concerning faith or morals to be held by the whole Church."[1][2]
    Reading more - this was important - emphasis mine

    The Catholic Church does not teach that the pope is infallible in everything he says; official invocation of papal infallibility is – apart from canonizations of saints – extremely rare. And those are usually regarded as not of divine faith, as they depend on facts that post-date New Testament revelation.

    Catholic theologians agree that both Pope Pius IX's 1854 definition of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of Mary and Pope Pius XII's 1950 definition of the dogma of the Assumption of Mary are instances of papal infallibility, a fact confirmed by the Church's magisterium.[64] However, theologians disagree about what other documents qualify.

    Regarding historical papal documents, Catholic theologian and church historian Klaus Schatz made a thorough study, published in 1985, that identified the following list of ex cathedra documents (see Creative Fidelity: Weighing and Interpreting Documents of the Magisterium, by Francis A. Sullivan, chapter 6):

    Tome to Flavian, Pope Leo I, 449, on the two natures in Christ, received by the Council of Chalcedon;
    Letter of Pope Agatho, 680, on the two wills of Christ, received by the Third Council of Constantinople;
    Benedictus Deus, Pope Benedict XII, 1336, on the beatific vision of the just after death rather than only just prior to final judgment;[65]
    Cum occasione, Pope Innocent X, 1653, condemning five propositions of Jansen as heretical;
    Auctorem fidei, Pope Pius VI, 1794, condemning seven Jansenist propositions of the Synod of Pistoia as heretical;
    Ineffabilis Deus, Pope Pius IX, 1854, defining the Immaculate Conception;
    Munificentissimus Deus, Pope Pius XII, 1950, defining the Assumption of Mary.

    There is no complete list of papal statements considered infallible. A 1998 commentary on Ad Tuendam Fidem issued by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith published on L'Osservatore Romano in July 1998[66] listed a number of instances of infallible pronouncements by popes and by ecumenical councils, but explicitly stated (at no. 11) that this was not meant to be a complete list.

    One of the documents mentioned is Pope John Paul II's apostolic letter Ordinatio Sacerdotalis on reserving priestly ordination to men alone,[67] which the Congregation earlier stated to be infallible, although not taught ex cathedra (i.e., although not a teaching of the extraordinary magisterium), clarifying that the content of this letter has been taught infallibly by the ordinary and universal magisterium.[68] This was confirmed in a commentary by the same Congregation[66] and in commentaries by Cardinals Joseph Ratzinger[69] and Tarcisio Bertone.[70] Many eminent theologians dispute that this is truly infallible, including Nicholas Lash, an ex-priest and Emeritus Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge.[71] The Catholic Theological Society of America in a report, "Tradition and the Ordination of Women", concluded that Ordinatio Sacerdotalis is mistaken with regard to its claims on the authority of this teaching and its grounds in Tradition.[72]

    As well as popes, ecumenical councils have made pronouncements that the Church considers infallible.
