Default Retirees - Survey about Arlington eligiability.

This message has been transmitted by JSP on Behalf of AASA//Arlington National Cemetery (ANC)//

We value and respect the opinions of current Active Duty, Army National Guard, and US Army Reserve Soldiers, Civilian colleagues and retirees, and therefore, we wish to provide all personnel with the opportunity to share their opinion on eligibility for burial in Arlington National Cemetery. We request that this message be given widest dissemination across your organizations.

The cemetery is at a critical crossroads in its history. Based on current eligibility standards, Arlington National Cemetery will run out of space in approximately 23 years and at that time will no longer be an active cemetery. The Army has been asked by Congress to consider what might be done to preserve ANC as an active military cemetery well into the future for generations to come. There are only two basic factors that affect the life of ANC - available land and the rate at which burials are requested. ANC's location in a highly developed area inside of the Capital Beltway limits the amount of expansion available to only a few small parcels of land and at ANC's current rate of services, each acre will only extend the life of the cemetery by three months.

In July 2017, the cemetery conducted a survey in partnership with several military and veteran organizations. The more than 28,000 respondents shared that keeping ANC open well into the future is paramount. They also communicated that if eligibility at ANC is limited those killed in action, Medal of Honor and other valorous award recipients, former POWs, and those active duty service members who die on operational missions should have a place at ANC.

After analyzing the results of first survey, cemetery leadership determined there was a need for further refinement. With the assistance of the Advisory Committee on Arlington National Cemetery and military and Veteran Service Organizations (VSO), they developed a second survey, which is now available on the cemetery's website.

Arlington National Cemetery invites everyone to take the survey and continue the robust and candid national dialogue. "Your opinion matters - not only to us, but to our military and civilian leaders as they face a difficult future for our hallowed national shrine," said Executive Director of Army National Military Cemeteries Karen Durham-Aguilera.

The survey can be accessed on the cemetery's website at:
    www.arlingtoncemetery.mil/eligibility-survey

Please provide widest dissemination so that the Army can make the most informed recommendations on future eligibility.

This optional survey is authorized by OMB Control Number 1090-0008 /
    ICR Reference Number 201412-1090-002.
“… the greatest detractor from high performance is fear: fear that you are not prepared, fear that you are in over your head, fear that you are not worthy, and ultimately, fear of failure. If you can eliminate that fear—not through arrogance or just wishing difficulties away, but through hard work and preparation—you will put yourself in an incredibly powerful position to take on the challenges you face" - Pete Carroll.

I have lost my mind. If found, please give it a snack and return it?

I have a quetion. At our ages (roughly) who doesn't have a hole in the ground? You know that is totally sticking it to your kids? While I DO see some poetic justice in that, for real.

And isn't this just a game for the government to soak someone for some Benjamins? Let's be real. Nobody is going to remember us. When I was in DC I used to run through the Mall. The saddest place there was the WWI Memorial. Dirty. Unswept. Nobody cared. Just some names on a paper.

My plans are to be put in a small box and over the side I go.

I might try (before passing) to swallow uncooked popcorn, just to make the cremation more interesting

The Bahia Honda Bridge. Dove off it once.

Default I did the survey yesterday..Done.

Talking about ways to go....I remember how Johnny Carson once said he'd like his done.

Have the whole family at the cemetery...ONE LITTLE HOLE....tie ropes around my legs to TWO chipmunks, and when they FIRE the SEVEN volleys over me....The Chipmunks DRAG me into the hole. NO EXTRA CHARGE, done. And no GRAVE to pay rent for either.

Actually. I believe I earned my spot at Arlington. 30 Years at leasted earned me more than SOCIAL SECURITY and their measley $250.00 when I croak, kick the bucket, become worm dirt.

If there's no room when I go. I don't mind the URN, but I did leave instructions...before the COOKING takes place. I need to have socks on (my feet are always cold), and a Lighter, in case I meet somebody with a smoke. Don't have to worry about any CANCER there! (I hope)

That is goofy, but interesting! Hmmm!!![/QUOTE]Ask Bilge. Where is he? The old trestle bridge from Bahia Honda to Sugarloaf. Was originally one pf Flaggler's
Follies. The FEC ran from Jax to Key West. The cane in 27 wiped the f*cker.

So along came Camille in 68 and guess where we lived? Key West. The entire island was under water for a week. We stayed in the barracks at NAS for 4 days.

So, back to nowhere, if you could dive from the trestle bride you had balls. I was just stoned as Hell. If I'd been sober that dare would have been a non-happening event. The girl I was with broke her back. Cracked her spine. She wasn't destroyed. To this day I regret goading her. But 76 in the Keys? I was invincible.

So Camille didn't even slow down running over us and went and wiped the uncle's house in LA and he lived in Slidell. NO was 30 miles south.

And if anyone is wondering, I'm just telling sea stories. True enough, but BSing. Believe it or not I try to avoid everyone being pissed at me. I hate drama. Almost as much as being blamed for shit I didn't do.
