Between the Memorial Day sales, picnics and chores, let's remember: War is still hell

I have always viewed Memorial Day and Veterans Day as a teaching experience for my daughter. As a non-military family, we never experienced anything first hand. So you have to approach it otherwise.
Today, we started out at Los Angeles Memorial Cemetery for an observance of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. Then we went to the All Wars Memorial in Boyle Heights. Followed by a cookout at my sister's home in East Los Angeles. Which is always a good time for all.

The local cemetery has the graves of my Dad, Step-Dad -both WWII Veterans. And My Mom. spouse to both.
I buried all 3 with my brother - Navy Vet - twice.
I have lost my mind. If found, please give it a snack and return it?

Russ’ great great great, etc., grandfather has one of these next to his headstone in Maine. He was 15 when he joined a Massachusetts regiment and fought in the Revolutionary war. We have his actual rifle, bayonet included, on our wall. Being the colonial history lover that I am, I truly am in awe of these things. I always worry someone will steal either of them. Luckily, the cemetery at least is in a small town in Maine. Fingers crossed.

My dad was a WWII vet, bronze star recipient, in the Italian campaign, as I’ve mentioned here before. Maybe we should get a marker for his grave, though the Catholic cemetery removes everything you put there in a few days.

Oldest brother is a Vietnam vet, though he was drafted and def did not want to go. He now has Parkinson’s, and the VA hospital attributes it to exposure to Agent Orange.

I'm sorry about your brother, but grateful for all their services.

Bless your dad, too. We will miss that generation.

ETA: I meant to say Bronze- fixed it.
