    Default Memorial Day 2018

There won't be any BBQ's here, nor any celebrating. Just the family, thew 3 of us at home.

Anyway, here's a little gathering of pictures to honor the day, and ALL of those fallen fighting for our great country.

The U.S. Postal Service will send you free Flat Rate shipping boxes, Customs forms, Priority Mail labels and tape for sending packages to Iraq or Afghanistan. Call 1-800-610-8734, select option 1 (Express Mail, Priority Mail or Global Express) and ask the service agent for the Military Kit (or Mili-Kit).

My wife is already sending things as part of their "care package program" or something sounding like that. Honestly, I admit she is more proactive than I am.

We usually send something end of November. Not sure how it is now but mail usually took about 3-4 weeks when I deployed. Probably quicker if they can fly it in. Our came by ship so we'd get it whenever we got an underway replenishment from the UnRep ship.

Our daughter is in a program where you send packages several times a year to a soldier assigned to you. I don’t recall the name, but it’s pretty cool. She thought of doing this on her own. Mama is proud that we raised a child who cares.

Absolutely nothing. I guess we (wherein “we”= Russ) will just continue renovating the powder room.

If I had my Camaro I'd be out and about cruising around, but I'm stuck with this OLD PERSON'S CAR Buick Regal.

In all fairness to the Chevy dealer, they did ask me if I wanted my car for the weekend, but I said no, it's already there, go ahead and get those stripes painted on.

Default Memorial Day is not a day to celebrate in any way.

Other than the standard tv advertisements about Memorial Day Sales that are just another way to make money, and get people to start their vacations.

Glad to see more Respect being shown. Sadly....We heard somebody say "Have a Happy Holiday" on Friday. How nuts is that???

Then again. Look at how our country has fallen so low over the past dozen years.

Visit my Dad's, Step-Dad's and Mom's graves. Enjoy the lovely setting, flags on all Vet's graves, along the hillside
overlooking the ocean. I'll try to get a pic or two and attempt to load them.

Dad and Larry were both WWII Vets.

Dad, South Pacific, then also through Korea and 'Nma.

Larry, flew as a radio operator ofn transports "Over the Hump", India to China.

I have to say, my parents taught us that as kids. Memorial Day is to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice whther enlisted or volunteer.

Remember, then enjoy the weekend with family and friends, keeping in mind those whose sacrifices made it reality.

Veterans Day is for all those who served, living or not. Memorial Day is solemn.

I was trying to think ... (hard enough task ) I don't remember celebrating Memorial Day specifically. I don't know that I recall every hearing it was a solemn occasion though. I honestly never paid much attention to the why's of holidays.

Put flags by my Nam Vet brother and WWII father's graves yesterday... and if anyone wonders what the Latin inscription on my brother's grave stone says, it says, "I lived this life." He ended all his poetry and stories he used to write with that. He had 146 IQ and was a member of MENSA. He took college level Latin in high school. He loved it so we thought it would be cool to put it on his grave stone.
