    Default Return of the Condor

The Yurok Tribe of NW California is working to reintroduce the Condor
into its natural habitat near the Klamath and Trinity Rivers.

A similar movement is afoot in Oregon in the mountains of the
    Chetco and Rogue River drainages.

    Excellent move!

Mistakes of a hundred years ago are slowly being repaired. Only 22 of these birds were alive
in the 1980's, and were captured. Now about 450 exist and they are slowly being released
into the wild. The first were released into the Santa Monica Mountains in Ventura County, CA.
I have lost my mind. If found, please give it a snack and return it?

~ "Our ties to the condor go back to the beginning of time when the creator was devising how the world would be managed,” said Yurok wildlife biologist Tiana Williams-Claussen. “We’re missing a part of ourselves.” ~

I lived in Ventura County when the first California condors were released back into the wild. I've seen them in captivity as well as in the wild. They are a truly magnificent bird. Huge, with a 9-10 foot wingspan... when you first see one in flight... wow.

The work they've done to save the species is something else...

    I agree!

When the recovery effort first began it was a huge gamble, knowing it would take time
    and, above all, patience.

The results are amazing and will likely get better.
