"An Officer with the Cicero Police Department, a western suburb bordering Chicago, was shot multiple

times following an attempted traffic stop. Officers boxed in the fleeing automobile on the Cicero

Avenue ramp of the Stevenson Expressway. The suspect emerged from his vehicle and began firing at

two officers, striking Officer Luis Duarte four times in his arm, leg, and side.

The suspect then fled north on foot along Cicero Avenue where he fired at a third officer. A CCL

holder

travelling in heavy southbound traffic on Cicero Avenue then exited his vehicle and, along with the

third officer, engaged the suspect. The suspect was struck once and seriously wounded.

“We were lucky enough to have a citizen on the street that is a concealed carry holder, and he

engaged in gunfire with this offender who was struck one time," [Cicero Police Superintendent Jerry] Chlada said."
