Default Steelers are a "hot mess"

All I know is that we still have a damn great offense, with or without Le'veon Bell. In their W last night, Ben tossed 3 TD's, was an outstanding 30 of 38 and had a total of 353 yards passing.

But the D is still hit or miss, if we're lucky. Giving up way too many points in every game and making me have anxiety waiting til the last second in nearly every game! So now they are 1-1-1

    ----

This Steelers mess might be too hot for Mike Tomlin to control when it matters most

TAMPA, Fla. – Urban Dictionary defines “hot mess” as “when one’s thoughts or appearance are in a state of disarray but they maintain an undeniable attractiveness or beauty.”

By that measure, the Pittsburgh Steelers are the hottest of messes. They always make you watch and they always make you wince. There is beauty and bumbling in just about every quarter, and there was plenty of both in the team’s first win of the season, 30-27, here on Monday against the Buccaneers. It was vintage Mike Tomlin, where you walk away wondering, “That’s a fun team … but is it a great team?”

They couldn’t even land the team plane here without drama, having to abort to nearby St. Petersburg on Sunday because of thunderstorms. Some of the players plotted a cockpit takeover, joked linebacker Bud Dupree. “I thought we were kidnapped,” he said after the game.

On Monday night, the game started with turbulence: a Steelers penalty. On the opening kickoff.

    How does that happen?

Then the defense gave up a touchdown. And then came a stiff-arm that will go down in football folklore, with tight end Vance McDonald receiving a Ben Roethlisberger pass and then delivering a meme-tacular blow to Bucs safety Chris Conte.

Steelers are my 3rd most favorite NFL team, behind the
    Redskins and Packers.

I just could not believe the Week 1 meltdown against the Browns.

Oh, speaking of the 'Skins and Packers, I think that penalty against
Clay Matthews was borderline wrong, in spite of how the rule is written.
It looked a lot like an open field tackle, although I do agree most all
'sackers' wrap a QB up rather than a smackdown.
I have lost my mind. If found, please give it a snack and return it?

The penalties with the "Personal foul, roughing the passer" crap is out of hand!! There were about 30 penalties in last nights game - and both sides got nailed with unreasonable penalties where your typical tackle was now called a penalty. I can ONLY see the addition of "any" helmet to helmet contact, but far too much lameness.

BOTH of Matthews tackles were perfect IMO!

Funny thing about helmet to helmet is it should be a judgement call.
Suppose a runner or receiver lowers HIS head into a tackler? Is that offensive
player going to be called for it? Under this new interpretation, no.

Bullish fullbacks like Harris, Csonka, and Riggins lowered their head all of the time,
for example. Charley Taylor lowered his head into tacklers all of the time.

Did you catch this story out of Miami?:

The NFL's Stupid New Roughing The Passer Rule Cost William Hayes His Season

    Photo: Lynne Sladky (AP)
Dolphins defensive lineman William Hayes hurt himself while sacking Derek Carr yesterday, and today two worst-case scenarios were confirmed. Not only did Hayes tear his ACL on the play, he did so while trying to follow the NFL’s asinine new rule that prevents defenders from landing on the quarterback.

Dumb rule. Change it all to flag football: National Flag Football League. Guys are going to loose their footing, slip and slide. Landing on
the opponent is not necessarily intentional. They focus on the QB but do not give a hoot about other positions that have players
    landed on.

I watched this yesterday, a highlight of Mean Joe Greene's career. He would be ejected in every game today!! That would be after racking up like 24 roughing the passer calls!
