    Some people would willingly sacrifice themselves, others would do everything they could to survive, the hindsight arbitration of ‘you should of done X’ because of their sex, age, dependents, etc. is something the survivors can argue over afterwards.
    If you also agree that an animals suffering should be avoided rather than encouraged, consider what steps you can take.
