Default I Can Hear Gun Shots Sitting Here At My Computer...

Yes, gun deer hunting season is in full swing here in Wisconsin. Over a million people hit the woods looking to harvest a deer this season, hitting all time high new record number of hunters.

I don't care for the taste of venison myself, too gamie, but I hunted none the less with my father for decades. I don't hunt deer anymore. I had a nice 8 point buck wander through my back yard though about a week ago.

Couple weeks ago we found three rattlesnakes in yard during a one week period.

Neighbor came by one day and mentioned snake was laying across threshold of gate. I keep extra 9mm clip loaded with snake shot with hearing protection and safety glasses on counter so it's easy to swap out and dispatch the little suckers.

Usually catch them with snake tongs and drop in bucket before shooting but this one took off down the steps. It was dark and my friend was holding flashlight but I managed to get a good headshot.

Anyway, heard gunshots from two other neighbors that week. We don't hunt deer here (live next to national park and they are protected) so gun shots mean snakes or coyotes getting in chicken coop.

Interesting... never heard of "snake shot" before. We used to catch rattle snakes on the flight line at Nellis AFB. They wouldn't let us kill them so we'd have to put them in a bucket and take them back out in the desert and let them go. We even catch little baby rattlers. They were usually pretty easy to spot.

It's Monday, and those deer hunters here that didn't get a deer opening weekend might take some time off and still hunt. Not everyone gets lucky. Thanksgiving day is the next big hunting day. Out here in the boonies people will have their big Thanksgiving meal and then get together "drives" to push the deer, hoping you kick something up and someone gets a shot.
