Default Prime Minister Theresa May Announces Resignation

Looks like some serious chaos continues...

    ---

Finally! UK Prime Minister Theresa May Announces Resignation After Three-Year Brexit Failure

Prime Minister Theresa May announced her resignation from outside 10 Downing Street Friday morning, stating she would be officially stepping down in two weeks time.

In her remarks outside the Prime Minister’s official residence, Theresa May said she had “done her best”, and “everything I can” to deliver Brexit by negotiating a deal with the European Union, but conceded “sadly I was not able to do so”.

Saying it was time for a new Prime Minister to lead Brexit, Mrs May said she would be resigning as leader of the Conservative Party on Friday 7th of June, so that a successor could be chosen.

Theresa May was a fundamentally flawed politician and Party leader ... unfortunately.

The 2016 Referendum was crystal clear. Its mandate was for us to LEAVE the EU. Not to dream up excuses for delay and prevarication, and not to only leave as the product of a 'deal' with the EU. No. It was just to LEAVE.

Parliament as a whole has defied that mandate. Their voting mandates a 'no deal' exit as unacceptable ... and the only deal available was a dodgy one, that failed to command support for ratification on THREE separate occasions.

So, no progress was, or is currently, possible.

Mrs May failed to adapt to any of this reality, when instead, she could've just kept her word, obeyed democratic mandate, and actually allowed us to leave !! The legal default was for us to leave minus a deal. She could have allowed that.

But, though she said many times that 'no deal' was better than a 'bad deal', she completely reneged on that policy pledge.

So ... instead, she stuck to a line that second-hand car salesmen would've been embarrassed to follow, and sell a 'product' that everybody knew was unsaleable !!

In so doing, she put her own ego and thoroughly myopic zeal above the wider interests of her country. She could've been tough with the EU, but refused to be. Instead, she pushed a dodgy deal for all she was worth, defying reality throughout. She failed the country's electorate. She failed her own Party, because she presided over - and absolutely, immovably, insisted upon - a policy direction that many of her colleagues couldn't live with. Some have resigned out of it.

She's been a weak leader, one blind to political reality. She had to go. Even she has finally seen that.

May did everything she could to defy the will of the people. She would fit right in as a House Democrat over here.

Just unreal that politicians can live with themselves just outright ignorig the people who they were elected to lead. In the old days that would get your ass a date with the guillotine.

I think the real truth is that Mrs May chose to interpret the will of the people in one, very narrow, way. She pushed again and again to get a deal through the Commons, to get it ratified. For her, an exit 'with a deal' was the only way to go ... and, since the EU would only agree to one deal, then not change a single sentence within it afterwards, their deal was the only one she could push.

She committed what has always been a fatal flaw to any true Conservative, that of not facing reality, or to adapt to it. With getting a deal through rendered unworkable, her clear direction SHOULD have been to obey the 2016 mandate and walk away from the EU minus a deal.

She absolutely refused to do that.

That the Commons ruled out a 'no deal' exit was ultimately unimportant. The far wider UK-EU default position in law was to crash out at the end of March, if the deal hadn't been ratified by then. She could have just sat back and let it happen, obeying the democratic Will of the People in doing that.

No. Her ego got in the way, and she never stopped trying to sell her dodgy deal (.. made that way by EU intransigence and THEIR dodgy dealing).

It's really that simple, STTAB. Her character is fundamentally flawed, she refused to concede reality, and now, since in truth reality MUST always win out ... she's paid for her blindness to it.

You're more charitable than I am. I think she always was purposely pushing for a deal that the EU would never accept so that she could say "See I tried to get out of the EU" even though she had no intention of doing so.

Our politicians do this all of the time. Democrats have been especially bad abut it over the last 12 or so years. They offer Republicans a "deal" that is so terrible that even the idiotic Republicans know they can't accept it, and then turn around "see we tried to work with Republicans, but they just won't work with us" and it works because our country allows every idiot to vote, and most of them vote Democrat.

Judging by your wording, I don't think you've grasped what's actually happening (?). So let me clarify matters, if I can.

The deal which Mrs May has repeatedly tried to get support for in Parliament is one ALREADY agreed by the EU !! The EU certainly DID accept it, as, after all, they had a major hand in drafting it !! Having jointly agreed its text with the EU side, Mrs May then tried to sell the completed work to our politicians for ratification, and repeatedly failed. It is this string of failures, along with deep divisions in her own Party as to how the whole Brexit issue should've been approached, which led, today, to Mrs May's resignation.

Part of Mrs May's continuing difficulty was the EU's insistence that they'd stick to the deal, come-what-may. They refused to renegotiate any part of the completed document, insisting that, since both sides had completed drafting it and concluded negotiations, no revision to it was possible.

They're still insisting on this. They have always refused to budge an inch from that stance, ever since negotiations concluded.

There are delusional types in Labour who think that renegotiation is possible. The EU has never conceded that it is. That, STTAB, contributed to Mrs May's dilemma ! She couldn't get the deal ratified, and the EU refused to offer her any alternative to it.

    As matters stand:

    1. There's only one 'deal' out there. It won't be accepted in Parliament.

    2. Parliament has voted to reject any possibility of a 'no deal' Brexit ... meaning, the Government is committed to seeking one as its route towards a successful Brexit.

    3. The EU rules out any possibility of any different deal to the one they've co-authored, AND, they'll accept no attempts at amendments.

    4. With this impossible situation in play, our only routes towards Brexit are to crash out minus a deal in October, which will happen by default if no other solution acceptable to the EU is found, or, for Parliament to change its mind before then and ratify the deal .... OR .... to give up trying to exit in the first place. This last option is guaranteed to be accepted by the EU !

If Mrs May had thought she could get a voting majority to accept the deal in the Commons, she'd have had no reason to resign !!

    Is this clear now ?
