A friend of mine told me years back that he was with his Dad when he passed away, and that he had been comatose for days, but the moment before he passed he opened his eyes and "pointed" up to the corner of the room. Evidently he was "seeing" something. Could it have been his past relatives coming to escort him away?

    I think so.

I was with my dad in his hospital room as he was dying of lung cancer. As I was saying my goodbyes to him I noticed some movement above his head. As best as I can describe it it was like a transparent 'wave' that had broken and was churning on itself. After hovering over his head for a few seconds, the 'wave' slowly washed over his whole body. Once the 'wave' passed his feet it simply dispersed. I turned to look at dad's face, he took a few more breaths and then simply stopped breathing. I had never seen someone die before and wasn't quite sure what I was witnessing. I consider myself a religious person (a member of and regular attendee of a Lutheran church and have two brothers that are Lutheran pastors in Minnesota and Wisconsin) and had always felt that I witnessed either an angel or the Holy Spirit retrieving my father's soul. Thank you for your post, Abbey. It has helped me in my quest for further understanding.

Similar with my Mom. She was pointing up and clasping her hands, and her face looked joyous right before she died. She was a faithful Christian woman who really loved the Lord. It was very comforting at an extremely difficult time for us.

Can’t know, of course, but the scripture citation above indicates it was an angel.

I may be older than most. I may say things not everybody will like.
But despite all of that. I will never lower myself to the level of Liars, Haters, Cheats, and Hypocrites.
