I keep my receipts, which should be good enough, in safe. However, I've only purchased from gun shops, not individuals or gun shows. Had to pass background check every time.
Interesting fact ... I got a spent casing with the one I purchased in CA but not Arizona. Was told it was previously fired for ballistic fingerprinting.
