    Default Lady Antebellum

Quite frankly, I don't care how it came about. I also don't blame "Lady A", the original, for her and her lawyer making a monetary demand. The original used Lady A for 2 decades. Perhaps not as as successful as the band known as Lady Antebellum, but it's her trademarked name nonetheless.

So Lady Antebellum wants to join the crowd in ending part of their identity to appease the masses. Without much thought and certainly without research, they drop the rest after the A and changed to Lady A - which of course is already in use by another woman.

Royalties. But they wanted and expected it for free and tried to convince the original it was a good decision for her. How the hell do you expect to share the name, and not destroy her in the process? Pay the woman or go your OWN way.

And where do they think they get their "right" to also have that name? And they have a trademark apparently using the name Lady A. But even if the smaller time woman never did so - an artists work is usually considered protected via just that upon creation and use. A little more confusing than that, but IMO, they should never have received the trademark to begin with. They sound like bullies.

Why Lady A -- Formerly Antebellum -- Is Now Suing Blues Singer Lady A Over Their Name

The country band has no interest in stopping Anita White from performing as Lady A, but say they had to respond after her lawyer submitted a settlement agreement to the tune of $10 million.

It was awkward for a moment there after Lady Antebellum decided to drop the "ntebellum" from their name only to find that there was another artist out there who'd been performing as Lady A for the past two decades.

Then, everyone thought it was all good after the two parties came together, talked it out and apparently agreed that they would share the name going forward. So what happened?

The music world was rocked on Wednesday to discover that the newly-minted Lady A -- the country trio of Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and David Haywood -- had filed a lawsuit against blues singer Anita "Lady A" White.

The optics immediately looked bad for the country group, like the big multi-million dollar juggernaut was throwing their financial muscle behind strong-arming an independent artist into giving up an identity she'd been using for years just so they can have it.

But according to the band, it was something closer to the opposite of that. Plus, even in their current litigation, they have no interest in stopping White from performing under the Lady A moniker. They're just trying to protect their right to also do so.

Further, they claim that after coming to an understanding and an agreement with White about how they would share the name, and even possibly collaborate in an effort to capitalize on the publicity and boost White's profile, they were subsequently hit with a huge surprise.

Huge to the tune of "a draft settlement agreement that included an exorbitant monetary demand."

"Today we are sad to share that our sincere hope to join together with Anita White in unity and common purpose has ended," the band said in a statement to ET. "She and her team have demanded a $10 million payment, so reluctantly we have come to the conclusion that we need to ask a court to affirm our right to continue to use the name Lady A, a trademark we have held for many years."

And so, the new Lady A has filed suit to protect their right to the name, claiming they'd already been using it interchangeably with Lady Antebellum since the mid 2000s. Further, they went so far as to register the Lady A trademark in 2010 for entertainment purposes.

Nevertheless, the lawsuit is insistent that the group is not looking for any money from White and they have no interest in enforcing their trademark by trying to get her to stop using that name professionally.

Rather, they want a legal declaration from the court that says they are also allowed to perform and record and do all those things music artists do under the Lady A name.

"We never even entertained the idea that she shouldn’t also be able to use the name Lady A, and never will -- today’s action doesn’t change that," the band said. "We felt we had been brought together for a reason and saw this as living out the calling that brought us to make this change in the first place. We're disappointed that we won’t be able to work together with Anita for that greater purpose."

Lady Antebellum had only one good song. Last decade. They went on "the list" with the Dixie Chicks (who have also changed their name to just "The Chicks) of never seeing a dime of my money again. Lady Antebellum for caving, and the Dixie Chicks for their BS in England about GWB, then a sitting President of the US.

At the rate people are going, I sure am going to save a LOT of money. I'm running out of people to buy from (not really .

I never buy music or movies. I used to go to movies about twice a month, but now I'm so disgusted with celebrities I m content to not go to movies ever again. Just watch at home if I'm interested.

I went to a movie. About 8 years ago. Time before that had to have been back in the 90s I wait for them to come out on disc. I can't sit still for 2 hours. Not for a movie anyway. I generally have on as noise some 20s-50s B&W movie.

Haven't bought music since the 90s either. I did have the Dixie Chicks first two CDs and I rationalized that as I bought them before they disrespected our country in a foreign nation. Haven't heard of them but every now and then since. That's saying a lot since they are from "here". Not just Texas -- local "here". Since they pulled their crap 17 years ago? I have heard one of their original songs one time on the radio.

Hope it was worth it to them

Same with Lady Antebellum. "Antebellum" means "the period before". The word got associated with the Confederate States of America, but does not belong to it. Add suing someone for daring to say something about stealing their name ..I wonder which one claims to be the "brains" of the outfit?
