Default A night of violence in Chicago, and of course Portland too

Oldest articles first. Work your way down through the destruction and looting.

A bunch of Twitter videos at these links too.

Massive Looting Underway in Downtown Chicago and Magnificent Mile As Riots Continue Across the Nation

Black Lives Matter engaged in massive widespread looting in Chicago on Sunday evening, once again.
A caravan of vehicles was carrying dozens of looters from store to store, according to reports.

Facebook pulled down livestreams of the looting after shots were heard being fired near a Louis Vuitton store that was being raided.

A Facebook user with the name Aero Finesses was enthusiastically livestreaming and encouraging the destruction while celebrating the amount of live viewers on his stream. Another Facebook user livestreamed himself looting Nike while broadcasting his own face and faces of other looters.

Along with the vandalism and looting, cars were also being lit on fire.

Looting was also taking place in Seattle, where a Whole Foods, Chase Bank and Starbucks were attacked.

Shots Fired in Chicago as Looters Target Louis Vuitton Store and Several Stores on Magnificent Mile

Shots were fired on Sunday night in Chicago as rioters looted a Louis Vuitton store on Walton and Michigan St.
There was massive widespread looting throughout the city, as violent racial unrest continues to sweep the nation.

It is unclear at this time who fired or if anyone was hit. The shots could be clearly heard in multiple livestreams.

A group of women were also threatening each other with knives according to a livestreamer who was at the scene.

Over 100 people were swarming the luxury store according to the police scanner. They also targeted Gucci, Timberland and multiple other stores.

Along with the looting, the rioters were also lighting vehicles on fire and vandalizing large portions of the city.

The latest round of looting is supposedly in response to the Chicago Police shooting a suspect who had allegedly shot at them first, earlier in the day.

Facebook pulled down all livestreams from the scene shortly after the shots were fired.

Security Guard Shot in Chicago as Mass Looting and Mayhem Overwhelms Police

A security guard has reportedly been shot in Chicago as widespread violent rioting and looting overwhelmed the city.
The rioting began on Sunday evening in response to a black man who was shot by police after reportedly shooting at them first.

The guard, who has not yet been identified, is said to be in stable condition.

Thousands of people were looting luxury stores, with many boldly livestreaming their felonies. It would be difficult to overstate the absolute chaos and mayhem that took place in the city overnight.

The looters hit dozens of shops including Louis Vuitton, Nordstrom, Timberland, Nike, Best Buy, Pandora, Gucci, and many many more.

There were multiple reports of shots fired, including inside stores where looting was taking place.

Portland Police Officers Injured By Mortar Attack, Riot Declared

A riot was declared in Portland once again on Sunday night, after “mostly peaceful” protesters injured police in a mortar attack.
Two officers were injured in the attack, according to the Portland Police Department.

The rioters became violent after being warned to stay away from the Portland Police Association building, which they have broken into three times and set on fire twice in recent months.

“When the march reached the PPA, Portland Police made sound truck announcements to the crowd warning them not engage in criminal activities such as vandalism or attempting to set the building on fire,” the Portland Police said in a statement. “These types of activities would not be permitted and will result in arrest and potential use of force such as riot control munitions and tear gas.”

The statement continued on to say that “within 3 minutes, participants began barricading streets with dumpsters and fencing. A fire was lit on the sidewalk outside the PPA office. Fire and an ambulance was enroute to a medical call and had to reroute to get around the street blockage.”

“An unlawful assembly was declared, and the crowd was given multiple warnings over loudspeaker to disperse to the west. They began to launch eggs at the officers. People who did not leave were moved away by officers with Portland Police and Oregon State Police,” the statement said. “The majority of the group went north to Kenton Park. During the movement, commercial grade fireworks were thrown at officers and at least one injured two officers.”

Lightfoot’s Chicago: Looters Hit Magnificent Mile for 5 Straight Hours – Police Officer Gets Smashed in the Face

    Democrats Built This–

Black Lives Matter engaged in massive widespread looting in downtown Chicago and on The Magnificent Mile of high-end stores on Sunday evening, once again.

A Chicago police officer was slammed in the face during the riots that lasted until at least 5:30 AM.

The Police Officers looked helpless and overwhelmed.

I've been hearing a lot from back home that the time frame given below isn't quite accurate. There was a very short amount of time between the shooting and the looting-including trucks that pulled up in front of jewelry and banks. The whole 'child shot' doesn't ring correctly, as those kinds of mistakes are not made in the city neighborhoods-it's not the police that kill the kids, it's fellow gangbangers.

Anyhow, other than the time frame, this is pretty spot on from what I've been told. (Feel for my friend, she's an Allstate agent, specializing in commercial. Her phone was ringing before 5am.)

The police arrested over 100 and more to follow. It's not the same as Portland or Seattle, with 3 or 4 arrested. Chicago police and the whole system is corrupt, but destroying businesses or setting courts on fire just would not stand:

Chicago Police Superintendent: Looting Was ‘Fueled By Misinformation’
JOHN SEXTONPosted at 3:01 pm on August 10, 2020

“The seeds for the shameful destruction we saw last night were sown in the 5700 block of South Racine Avenue,” Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said today.

Earlier today Allahpundit wrote about the looting that took place in Chicago last night. There were reports that it was inspired by a police shooting that took place earlier in the day, however those reports didn’t seem definitive. But Superintendent Brown confirmed them. He explained that a 20-year-old man had fired at police while running away. Police fired back and struck the shooter. He is now in the hospital and is expected to survive.

Looters rampage through Chicago's Magnificent Mile

“After the shooting a crowd gathered on the south side following the police action. Tempers flared, fueled by misinformation as the afternoon turned to evening,” Brown said. He continued, “DPT became aware of several social media posts encouraging looting downtown.” In response, 400 officers were sent downtown and got there as the first looting began.

“This was an incident of pure criminality,” Brown said. He pointed out that 100 people were arrested and 13 officers were injured overnight. “In the last seven days a total of nine officers have been shot at in Chicago. What we are seeing is violence against police.” He described an incident last night when police officers attempting to arrest a looter were shot at by another car driving by. A bullet was found lodged inside the police car.

After Brown spoke, Mayor Lightfoot took a tough stance and vowed to protect the businesses which had been looted. To the looters she said, “We are coming for you.”

Mayor Lightfoot was clearly angry and visibly shaking at times during her speech. She said, “I call upon our State’s Attorney and our courts to make sure that these individuals who are arrested and those to come are held accountable.” She added,” These people need to be held accountable and not cycle through the system. And judges that are holding these cases, you need to step up and be responsible.”

After the speeches there was a Q&A and Sup. Brown was asked about his statement that people had been looting without fear of consequences. He replied “They based that on what happened previously, that we made a lot of arrests during May and June and not many of those cases were prosecuted to the fullest extent.” Brown continued, “And I think that’s my point and the mayor’s point: We have to have consequences for the arrests that Chicago police officers make through great threat to their own safety. They’re being shot at to make these arrests. And these looters, these thieves, these criminals they are being emboldened by no consequences in the criminal system. They get released. Many charges get dropped.”

A reporter restated what Brown had said “the courts and the prosecutors were not doing their job” and Chief Brown replied, “Don’t take it from me. Just go by what’s been done…There were no consequences for the people that were arrested.”

At this point Mayor Lightfoot stepped in and said to the reporter “Don’t bait us.” You can watch for yourself but it doesn’t sound to me like the reporter was baiting anyone he really just restated what Sup. Brown had said. In fact, before the Mayor interjected, Sup. Brown was agreeing with the reporter. Here it is queued up to the moment before Mayor Lightfoot called out the reporter.

To sum all of this up, you have an angry crowd spreading misinformation about a police shooting followed by looting and rioting. If that sounds familiar it should.

Yesterday was the 6th anniversary of the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson. That situation also involved misinformation about a police shooting followed by looting and rioting. To this day, Brown’s death is considered one of the foundational moments for the rise of Black Lives Matter and lots of people still march in the streets chanting “Hands up, don’t shoot.” But just last month St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell announced that after a secret, 5-month re-investigation of the Brown case, no charges would be filed. Why? Because the evidence does not support prosecution of Officer Darren Wilson. It never did.

In June, video of an arrest went viral in Madison, Wisconsin and a riot followed in which a state senator was beaten up to the point that he had to be hospitalized. The mob often isn’t very careful about the details. All it takes is a little bit of prompting on social media and you get riots like what we saw in Chicago last night. That’s a pattern that is being repeated but it’s one the media does not want to notice or talk about even though it’s been part of BLM from the start.

It's a damn shame that ANY town needs to be going through this, especially this year with this pandemic going on.

And it's bad enough to see it from afar, all the videos and stories, but living with it is another matter.

Between the filth they leave, the amount of noise, the crowds and inability to get around, the potential for violence near you & just all of it that comes with living in an area where these extended outbreaks are taking place.

I just was searching youtube to see if there was any news reports from downtown this afternoon. They pretty much lifted all the bridges to keep more out and not let those in the stores escape. LOL! Chicago is sort of surrounded by a moat in general. No trains or buses, they shut those off.

I will be surprised if they didn't have it pretty well cleaned up. While the 'broken windows' in the neighborhoods may be tolerated, not so much on Mag Mile.

Closer to what I've been hearing:

    https://abc7chicago.com/chicago-loot...lence/6363471/

Looters converge on Mag Mile, Gold Coast stores

Retail hit squads crisscrossed the Magnificent Mile after midnight. Chicago's prized Gold Coast has been tarnished for the second time in less than three months.

The ABC7 I-Team obtained a social media post that Chicago police detectives said directed looters to converge on Gold Coast stores starting at 12 a.m. Monday. The post points looters away from the South, West and East sides, and instead tells them to target downtown and the North Side. Looters are encouraged to bring tools, ski masks and gloves.

Downtown cameras captured crowds of looters just after midnight moving on Magnificent Mile stores including Macy's at Water Tower, Gucci, Nordstrom, and other high-end clothing, jewelry and watch boutiques on the adjoining retail corridors. Roving teams of quick strike retail thieves swept up Michigan Avenue and across Oak Street over to Rush and up to Division.

At sun-up, the damage was apparent: smashed windows, ransacked stores, emptied display cases and cleared out shelves.

The looted stores are being shored up with plywood for now, hoping to rebuild and re-open again.

"It does feel like the perfect storm. The global pandemic, civil unrest and then this kind of physical violence, property damage. It's incredibly difficult," said Kimberly Bares, CEO of The Magnificent Mile Association.

The social media posts started in reaction to a police-involved shooting in Englewood Sunday evening, Brown said.
The shooting was a gangbanger that shot at police first. According to both the mayor and neighborhood folks, the rumor was that it was a young teen shot down by police. Then the social media started on meeting up on Mag Mile, come prepared.

Englewood, a southside basically poor neighborhood, predominately black pushes BLM protesters out:

Wow: Chicago Neighborhood Ejects BLM Protesters At Police Station
ED MORRISSEYPosted at 2:01 pm on August 12, 2020

Englewood may set the tone for dealing with rioters for the rest of the summer. After the organized pillaging this weekend on the Magnificent Mile, the city of Chicago toughened up their security stance. Black Lives Matter protesters and others set their sights on the Englewood neighborhood’s police precinct, but residents there pushed them out — literally.

SEE ALSO: Trump congratulates QAnon-er on winning Georgia House primary, because why not

“Those people were opportunist[s],” one leader of the neighborhood pushback told reporters:

A protest Tuesday started over a Chicago police-involved shooting and ended when Englewood residents pushed back. Expletives were dropped, and there was pushing and shoving, which forced the protesters to retreat.

A caravan started on 64th and Cottage Grove, and the protesters eventually ended up in front of the 7th District police station, but it didn’t last long.

“If you ain’t from Englewood, get the F*** out of here,” longtime neighborhood resident Darryl Smith told protesters….

“A lot of people saying the looting started because of Englewood. We are tired of Englewood getting a black eye, those people were opportunist,” Smith said.

He says he’s not buying it and he and other Englewood residents had wanted the protesters from Black Lives Matter Chicago, Good Kids Mad City and other groups to leave.

Three cheers for Englewood? This should make us feel conflicted, at least to some extent. There is no indication that the protest had turned violent or that laws were being broken. BLM and the other associated groups have a First Amendment right to demonstrate lawfully and peacefully. Others do not have the right to disrupt peaceful demonstrations or chase people out of neighborhoods simply because they don’t like them.

On the other hand, the Englewood neighborhood simply gave these protesters exactly what they want — mob rule. BLM Chicago practically celebrated mob rule in their statement Monday, claiming that the pillaging of the Magnificent Mile was a legitimate response to corporate exploitation. Well, this is what happens with mob rule: competing mobs. This time, the competition was peaceful, but in Fort Collins, Colorado, it wasn’t, and the “abolish the police” crowd lost that time, too.

If BLM and their associates have any complaints after Englewood, they should rethink their agenda. The people we pay to keep order, protect our civil rights, and discourage mob actions are the very people BLM and their affiliates want to abolish. The police are far from perfect, but they are by far the best option. The more they get pushed behind their walls, the more that mobs will start dealing with the mobs intimidating the police — and it won’t end well for anyone.

Why and who they pushed out.

Chicago has always been a segregated city, even today there are 'neighborhoods' in the city pretty much defined by race or ethnicity. However, there are certain things that all have learned: beware of those coming to 'help.' The best chance for things improving is to get on the 'inside' of the system. Burning down your place will result only in a burned out place.

While many of the suburbs welcome tech corridors springing up and haven't a problem with entire cities of tranferees, the city neighborhoods tend to be generational. They don't like outsiders coming to 'save' them. They rather deal with the Lightfoots than BLM or certainly antifa. On the other hand, the gangs will certainly respond to invites for looting.
