A Modern Cinquain poem written for a contest:--Tyr
Contest judged, my poem took 8th place. Not bad for my first Cinquain as the others awarded higher placings were great poems.
I saw about 8 published poets in lower placings than the 8th place finish I got. -Tyr

Note: Written long ago , revised for another poetry contest.
28 lines or less, subject love and dreams.
Must be any form of rhyme. No names, must
be new poem , list date.

Contest results in, this poem took 4th place. Very pleased with that result as competition by fine ,published poets was very stiff in that contest..

In the last three contests judged I took 2nd, 8th and 4th places. Prior to those three , I took a 1st place in my first comeback contest writings.
These poets my writings go up against are seasoned and many are well published poets.... -Tyr

Gone, Our Days Dancing In The Splashing Rain

As this our time retreats into faded thought
and our nights of love become a pain
We can both see that with a dear price bought
our days dancing in the splashing rain
Should we again find our way into love's realm
tempest breaking the greatest storm apart
Ship on truest course with heart at the helm
finding treasures not seen on any chart

When hope, our only saving grace fell very far
did we regret the touch of our lips then
Or invite in the misery creating this deep scar
thus viewing all our love passion as sin
What of the sorrow that chills us both so deep
deadly words that slash with no remorse
Nay, the damnation and costs make us both weep
each crying out for a much happier course

Has this time sealed our doom and failed pride
a journey based upon mistakes and lies
Drowning as we fail to cross darkness so wide
death under black waters with broken ties
Never reaching up for that romance saving hand
content to lick and eat our own pride
Saddest traveler into desolation's blackest land
moaning out regret as we enjoy the ride

Will our stubbornness give birth to great defeat
a testament to anger's futile arrogance
A nasty meal we each still find begging to eat
no victory in foolishly killing romance

Eight years have passed. This poem holds as true today as it did back then.
In fact, even more so today. As today I got the very sad news that a very dear old friend passed away.
Seems to me now that far more have passed than are still around.
My friend told me long ago, "Rob, just keep on writing- your heart and soul will then keep you on the right path".. -Tyr

When Truly, Deeply Lost And One Has Faith One Is About To Die

Alone and defiant I stood staring into death's icy face
On a knife thin ledge, slippery on a high cliff's so out of place
Panic stricken daring to pray for courage and hopeful saving out
At that very moment death spoke with its hideously wicked shout
Screaming, " You will die, I have you in my cold iron clutches now
I see you pray for divine help, even that field you cannot plow
Do recall in wicked nightmares how I gave you such deadly blows
Yes, sweat all the more and crying out for help, let your dark fear grow!

When truly, deeply lost and one has faith one is about to die.
Pray for mercy, pray for life, speak to that golden throne in the sky.

In my wild youth, I must have retold this story a thousand times
Some called me a liar, others said a poet with his rhymes
Yet as sure as Heaven its sweet promise vow of salvation gives
I survived, that gifted miracle proves this now old poet lives
Perhaps one future day I shall write the story of my rescue
How by faith I was given a new life and one I was not due
If ever so, this my testimony would assuredly awe and shock
Know this, death once had me in its unrelenting hard icy lock!

When truly, deeply lost and one has faith one is about to die.
Pray for mercy, pray for life, speak to that golden throne in the sky.

Double Chained Sonnets, Nature's Beauty, Our Vanity So Shames

    (1.)

Nature's Beauty, Our Vanity So Shames

Nature, deepest hues set to color life
life its temptations, bringing moral strife
strife, its agony he can not ignore
ignores, so doing denies, all the more.
More as he himself, huge treasure demands
demands as if Heaven, heeds such commands
commands that show his darkest of dark lust
lust he reasons as reward that is just.
Just as he thinks his life is to control
control using, to his honor extol
extol false virtue, truth rightly denies
denies as into great fits, he then flies!

Nature's beauty, our vanity so shames
Shames man's, so shamelessly set, wicked games!

Music, Could We Live Sweet Life Without It

Music, its gifts serenades, so rewards
rewards we, wanting to be famous bards
bards that struggle for magnificent words
words to all mankind, singing as songbirds.
Songbirds singing their music truly sweet
sweet to, in Life stir, man's tender heartbeats
heartbeats racing strong as soft glow showers
showers, as if from heaven's high bowers!
Bowers above, that set angels to sing
sing to mortal man, to greater joy bring
bring in deep beauty of music's treasures,
treasures, as one of Art's greatest pleasures!

Music, could we live sweet life without it?
It that oft sends, darkness back to dark pits.

    Default All excellent RBT.

Wish I had your talent for using the English language so well.
All admirable, and beautiful writing IMO.

I only wrote One poem long ago in the 60's to my now...Partner Wife for 52 almost 53 years.

Wrote it while I was still in uniform, and before I proposed to her. She was only 18 and I was about to become 21. Can't share it but will never forget it...AND NEITHER WILL SHE.

Once again. Beautiful words from you.
I may be older than most. I may say things not everybody will like.
But despite all of that. I will never lower myself to the level of Liars, Haters, Cheats, and Hypocrites.
