8 months out on the water? Yikes. I might have started to think about swimming!

Default Memories Jim...for many I'm sure.

    Kathianne....

I appreciate you posting this. Been there, done that..but not as long.

How bout this? During 1990-91 in the Persian Gulf during Operations Desert Shield/Storm. We did a little thing like that too!

Left Norfolk, Aug 19, 1990...one port call in Dubai...came home March 13, 91.

Except for 3 days in Dubai....You count the days. Thousands of sailors and marines know the feeling from way back then, on all kinds of ships the PUBLIC knows nothing about if it's not an AIRCRAFT CARRIER or SUBMARINE.

Ever heard the expression: "HAZE GREY AND UNDERWAY?" That's where it came from.

I got the been to that one hat. 368 days straight sea time. Except when they let us off in Saudi Arabia for a month

I can't imagine how every single person on that ship isn't batshit by now. I would be

Is it a book? A group? I missed the mention of such.

The War Zone is the place to watch when anything happens militarily around the world. The analysis is top notch.

I was going through some bookmarks, so I'll assume I got that from you!

That is a ship in serious need of some paint and body work...

Unfortunately. That kind of repair from Salt Water requires many weeks alongside a pier, or in a shipyard Drydock. SALT WATER is the biggest enemy of almost everything.

Those crew members deserve a long, long LEAVE period while the Shipyard workers do their thing.
After that...It will look like a new ship, probably with a huge turnover of crew as well.

I have mad respect for the crew of that ship. All that time at sea (only resupplied by unrep or helo) would make anyone nuts!

But being a Coastie I would like to submit the antics of this ship

    USCGC Courier (WAGR-410)

The Courier held the record for longest deployment overseas - from 17 July 1952 to 13 August 1964, she spent no time in United States territorial waters being stationed instead off the island of Rhodes, Greece during that time

    Much more here
