I've been watching on news. Record cold, doing windchill reports. Few plows, no salt, home civilians little experience with driving in snow, much less ice. OK getting hit with same today.

'Extremely dangerous winter storm' causes power outages across Texas
As of Monday afternoon, more than 150 million people were under a winter storm warning, winter weather advisory or ice storm warning in 25 states, stretching over 2,000 miles from southern Texas to northern Maine, the National Weather Service said.
Bitter, record-smashing cold accompanied the storm across the central U.S. Hundreds of daily record low temperatures have been or will be broken during this prolonged "polar plunge," the weather service said, "with some February and even all-time low temperature records in jeopardy." More than 50 million people could see temperatures dip below zero during the next several days, according to the Capital Weather Gang.

Massive winter storm triggers chaos across the country
The most unrelenting winter weather pattern in decades unleashed brutally unseasonable cold and record snowfall deep into Texas, sparked harrowing scenes on roadways across the middle of the country and left millions of customers without power over the weekend. The coast-to-coast weather system caused particular chaos across Texas, where rolling blackouts left people in the dark and without electricity amid teeth-chattering temperatures.
Heavily populated cities were in the throes of punishing cold on Monday morning. In Dallas, the thermometer read 7 degrees with an AccuWeather RealFeel Temperature of -19. To the north in Oklahoma City, conditions were even more brutal with the mercury at -7 and an AccuWeather RealFeel Temperature of -35. Across the state of Texas, more than 2.6 million customers were without power amid the sub-freezing temps and wintry precipitation.

They didn't even close school at 4" in IL. To be scoffed at We don't have the infrastructure to sustain single-digit temps. Our lives are based on 110 in the shade. I don't even have a snow shovel. I was thinking earlier how nice it would be if I had kept my snow boots. For 4" of snow every 10 years or so
