Dang, rolling brown outs over 4"? Weird when ya never have snow and aren't prepared properly. But why the electricity? People turning their heat up to melt the snow?

I've been watching on news. Record cold, doing windchill reports. Few plows, no salt, home civilians little experience with driving in snow, much less ice. OK getting hit with same today.

An "unprecedented" winter storm continued its assault on the nation Monday, leaving millions without power in Texas and wreaking travel havoc across a wide swath of the central and southern U.S. due to the heavy snow and ice.

'Extremely dangerous winter storm' causes power outages across Texas

As of Monday afternoon, more than 150 million people were under a winter storm warning, winter weather advisory or ice storm warning in 25 states, stretching over 2,000 miles from southern Texas to northern Maine, the National Weather Service said.

Bitter, record-smashing cold accompanied the storm across the central U.S. Hundreds of daily record low temperatures have been or will be broken during this prolonged "polar plunge," the weather service said, "with some February and even all-time low temperature records in jeopardy." More than 50 million people could see temperatures dip below zero during the next several days, according to the Capital Weather Gang.
I just measured the snow accumulation outside.
I live about 14 miles outside Memphis TN..
I measured three spots, all three spots measured 4 and one eight inches.
This while it is still snowing right now.
Earlier this morning news on radio forecast heavy snowfall, 8 inches coming our way Wednesday.....
No power problems here --so far... but it is damn cold..-Tyr

Wind turbines are frozen resulting grid failure thus brown outs. So much for green energy.

Texas sees one of its coldest winters in decades as temperatures drop

Texas is experiencing one of its coldest winter in decades , with temperatures expected to drop to as low as 11F (-12C) in Houston and 9F (-13C) San Antonio under a winter storm warning.

The governor, Greg Abbott, issued a disaster declaration for every county in the state on Friday, as conditions continued to get colder over the weekend. The White House also issued a federal emergency declaration for Texas, authorizing the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide additional support to the state.

“Every part of the state of Texas will face freezing conditions. That includes all the way down to Brownsville, Texas, over the coming days,” Abbott said in a press conference. “In many of those locations across the state of Texas, the high temperature for the day will be in the single digits.”

Massive winter storm triggers chaos across the country

The most unrelenting winter weather pattern in decades unleashed brutally unseasonable cold and record snowfall deep into Texas, sparked harrowing scenes on roadways across the middle of the country and left millions of customers without power over the weekend. The coast-to-coast weather system caused particular chaos across Texas, where rolling blackouts left people in the dark and without electricity amid teeth-chattering temperatures.

Heavily populated cities were in the throes of punishing cold on Monday morning. In Dallas, the thermometer read 7 degrees with an AccuWeather RealFeel Temperature of -19. To the north in Oklahoma City, conditions were even more brutal with the mercury at -7 and an AccuWeather RealFeel Temperature of -35. Across the state of Texas, more than 2.6 million customers were without power amid the sub-freezing temps and wintry precipitation.

Major Winter Storm Smashed Records in Texas, Spreading Snow, Damaging Ice From the South Into the Midwest, Northeast

A major winter storm, named Uri by The Weather Channel, has smashed snow records in Texas and will continue to spread snow and potentially damaging ice from the South into parts of the Midwest and Northeast through Tuesday.

Customers without power now may not get it back until tomorrow or longer

Texas' power grid experienced a systemwide failure Monday morning as demand surged due to the historic winter conditions across the state.

Grid managers declared an emergency after the record-breaking energy use strained utilities beyond capacity.

Outages across Texas could last for hours due to multiple power generation plants that are offline, according to officials. An estimated 75% of Texas power generation capacity is impacted.

Millions without power in Texas as snow storm slams US

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A frigid blast of winter weather across the U.S. plunged Texas into an unusually icy emergency Monday that knocked out power to more than 2 million people and shut down grocery stores and dangerously snowy roads.

The worsening conditions halted the delivery of COVID-19 vaccine shipments and left some Texas providers scrambling to find takers for doses expiring within hours.

They didn't even close school at 4" in IL. To be scoffed at We don't have the infrastructure to sustain single-digit temps. Our lives are based on 110 in the shade. I don't even have a snow shovel. I was thinking earlier how nice it would be if I had kept my snow boots. For 4" of snow every 10 years or so
