Default Times have changed in the IT world

This is a 1 gigabyte drive from back in the 70's.

And now today, here is a hard drive that is 250x larger in storage comparatively.

Need I say more?” - Chris Rock

The first time I walked into a RASC (that's computer room for you civ's ), the walls were lined with 10 x 5-or-so steel boxes (with lots of lights and noise). They had less capability than my laptop

How do you tell a Communist? Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin. - Ronald Reagan

That's incredible. From like 1,000 transistors. When I was first learning the first we started with was the Intel 8086 and 8088, then the 80186 & 386, then it was DEC for a few years at a different gig, then the game changer IMO was the Pentium, which went many variations for quite a few years, and then things exploded from there, year after year as it shows.

Now, what was once 1,000 - is now 50 billion transistors!

    Default Since we're all remembering.

Where I worked in the message center in 1985. We had those amazing Modems you had to place your phone in...(at first). Then they got away from that and brought in almost 200 modems...(the size of small suitcases) and each one was on a different frequency, guarded by cryptologic security devices.
So, when I retired in 95. I had a small Tandy from Radio Shack. 3 Inch discs, and a Hard Drive that (in comparison today) would get lost on our Cell phone.
After going to work for the NAVY Exchange as a computer salesman for COMPAC products. I couldn't afford the $2800 dollar Desktop they had. So we ended up getting WEB TV at home.
Oddly enough. I entered the "Get your Free Compac Desktop if you qualify"...and I did. They felt sorry for me I GUESS, after I told them my limits on WEB TV.

Today I have all HP, Desktop and a Laptop for the wife. They are both more than 5 years old. But still do what we need.
(P.S.) COMPAC went out of business, and DELL took over. I still have the old HARD DRIVE. It weighs about a pound and a half. 3 inches wide, 5 inches long. USELESS.
I may be older than most. I may say things not everybody will like.
But despite all of that. I will never lower myself to the level of Liars, Haters, Cheats, and Hypocrites.
Philippians 4:13 I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me:
