Toyota’s Hydrogen-Powered Engine Sounds Pretty Damn Good

Toyota is jumping into the fray, releasing a video that highlights the sound of its hydrogen-powered engine. Hosting the powerplant is a modified Corolla Sport with a turbo three-banger currently preparing for the Super Taikyu Series' 24-hour event at Fuji in a few weeks (May 21-23). It sounds remarkably similar to a gas-powered engine, making my rumbling-engine-loving heart go pitter-patter.

In the video published by Toyota Times, driver Hiroaki Ishiura says, "It's not as different as I expected. It feels like a normal engine."

Normal, that is, with the familiar vroom vroom but atypical in that it doesn't emit CO2. As Hazel reported a week ago, however, burning hydrogen still produces greenhouse gas and nitrous oxide.

Hydrogen as a solution to environmental concerns has a number of challenges currently, including low energy efficiency, production difficulty, and storage struggles. Even the U.S. Department of Energy says, "Applicable codes and standards for hydrogen storage systems and interface technologies, which will facilitate implementation/commercialization and ensure safety and public acceptance, have not been established." In other words, it's a pain

There are also a lot of advanced batteries under development. Like a million mile battery!

As of now, it's not bad to go 300-350 miles if possible before a charge, but if so, gotta get the full charge down to the same time to fill a tank of gas. Or if it takes a half an hour, then make the batteries last long enough to go like the equivalent of 6 tank fillups to make up for the lost time.

Once they make my entire 1,000-2,000 mile trip the same length of time to get there and as easy, then I may look to switch. And home charging without having to spend an arm and a leg for full charging is a must as well. All must be convenient before I do so.

Need I say more?” - Chris Rock

Default I agree with both of you on this...however.

There's still ONE huge drawback to the making of Hydrogen, and it requires FOSSIL fuel to do it...with a LOT of ELECTRICITY...generated by FOSSIL fuel.

    Here's the Link: https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/...20electricity.
Don't mean to throw COLD WATER on the idea. But like the WIND and SOLAR energy being advertised as better than FOSSIL FUELS.

WIND, and SOLAR also require the use of Fossil fuel for the manufacture of BOTH.

You make some good points. I hope the hydrogen motor can solve the problem with the gasoline motor usage.
Myself, I 've never been too keen on the battery thing.
Our biggest problem is not he use of gasoline engine- rather it is the way the dem party uses its negatives to use as hammering attack upon capitalism and our Advanced Western culture. All to advance their damn hidden socialistic and nation destroying agenda, imho.

One thing that should be looked at for generating electricity is Thorium nuclear reactors. They have a lot of advantages over the current Uranium/Plutonium reactors

    1. Thorium is 10x more plentiful that Uranium in the Earth's crust (Plutonium must be bred in a nuclear reactor)
    2. Thorium or its fissile components cannot be used to make nuclear weapons
    3. Thorium waste products have a half life of hundreds instead of thousands of years
    4. Thorium Liquid Salt Reactors are safe, if there is a malfunction, they simply stop working.
    5. Thorium is currently a waste product that is mixed in with Rare Earth metals in the US. This makes Rare Earth mining in the US not feasible economically. As a result, we must import our rare earths from China... which explains the chip shortage. Thorium reactors will make this economically feasible
