WASHINGTON (AP) — A dozen Jewish Democrats in the House have accused Rep. Ilhan Omar of likening the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban and giving “cover to terrorist groups,” marking the latest bitter flare-up within the party over the Middle East.

Hours after the lawmakers released a statement criticizing their Democratic colleague from Minnesota, Omar fired back Thursday on Twitter. She accused them of “islamophobic tropes" and “constant harassment" and she posted a threatening voice mail she said the incident had prompted.

The fiery, public exchange was the latest example of how the conflict between Israel and Palestinians has roiled congressional Democrats. Their divisions, generally pitting younger progressives against older, establishment-leaning lawmakers, have intensified since last month's 11-day war between Israel and Hamas.

It was also the most recent instance in which Omar, 38, has clashed with fellow Democrats on the issue. Two months after she arrived in Congress in 2019, the House approved a resolution condemning anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry — without mentioning her — after she made remarks that critics said accused Israel supporters of having dual allegiances.

Earlier this week, Omar, a Muslim-American born in Somalia, tweeted an exchange with Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a video conference in which she called for justice “for all victims of crimes against humanity."

The remarks that drew the most attention came when she said, “We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban. I asked @SecBlinken where people are supposed to go for justice."

Late Wednesday, Rep. Brad Schneider, D-Ill., and 11 other Jewish House Democrats issued a two-paragraph statement labeling her remarks offensive and misguided. They said she should “clarify" what she meant.

“Ignoring the differences between democracies governed by the rule of law and contemptible organizations that engage in terrorism at best discredits one's intended argument and at worst reflects deep-seated prejudice," they wrote.

Other Democrats, including Reps. Cori Bush, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, and Betty McCollum, also defended Omar against the mischaracterization and criticism of her remarks on investigations into war crimes.

This came after a group of 12 Democrats put out a statement condemning Omar over remarks she made in a tweet regarding a discussion between the Minnesota lawmaker and Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Monday. The statement misleadingly accused Omar of "equating" the US and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban and urged her to issue a clarification.

But Omar was referencing two open International Criminal Court (ICC) cases into potential war crimes — one involving the US and the Taliban in Afghanistan and another involving Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Neither Israel nor the US recognize the authority of the ICC, which can try individuals for war crimes, and Omar questioned Blinken about the issue of accountability for atrocities in violent conflicts.

Did she directly equate the USA with the Taliban or Hamas? Not directly in words, no.
Did those 12 democrats and republicans all take her words out of context? Absolutely not, IMO.

While not directly equated, she lumped in the USA with them on purpose. She has been crying about Israel supposedly committing crimes against humanity due to them protecting themselves from Hamas. She knows and admits/states that Hamas & Taliban have done the same, along with Israel & then simply lumped in the USA.

I think she's 100% full of shit & anti-American as usual, and got called out quickly on this one. And with the condemnation & then the statement released - the new queen of stupid responds as if her words would be final, or that she has any importance outside of her own brain.

On Thursday, senior Democratic leaders issued a unified statement denouncing comments made by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) earlier this week when she equated so-called “crimes against humanity” by the United States and Israel to “unthinkable atrocities” by the Taliban and Hamas.

If she expects anyone to believe for a single solitary second that she didn't purposely inject the USA in with terrorist groups on purpose. It was a choice to include our country. And I have absolutely zero, nada, no doubt in my mind that she feels this way as well.

And Crenshaw said she has a history of making such comments, and that she always plays the victim afterwards. And yes, it's a fact, she cries and whines about being held accountable for what she says. And of course the 'squad' comes out and supports her each and every time. And of course every time she is held accountable, she cries Islamaphobia.

Just a couple of her other friendly gems: "Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel." She tweeted that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) was paying American politicians to support Israel.

Who can forget the ultimate disrespect? Instead of simply referring to "terrorists" or "murderers" or God forbid "muslims" she chose to say - "CAIR was founded after 9/11 because they recognized that some people did something, and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties"

Facts are - She doesn't care much for America, she hates Israel & she fully supports Palestine, including Hamas. She will side with the muslim world almost every time.

On Friday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) stated that Rep. Don't get me wrong, I don't think she should be censored, I don't think anyone should be censored. And absolutely she has that right! But that makes it only more ironic too, as I would love for her, a woman, to try and make various comments publicly in Palestine or Afghanistan.

But the democrats seem to be unable to reason with. They have zero desire IMO for unity of any kind. They have zero desire to be bipartisan in any way. And taking responsibility is something foreign to them.
