New York flooded
And we got nailed hard in our basement, even with all of our sump pump upgrades and wells. Just too much too quickly. Slowly getting things out - but entire basement is ruined and everything in it, and includes our hot water heater which we had 3 feet off ground & our AC unit motherboard. All of my tools if you see what's left of my workbench. Just a ton of stuff.
This is what I first found that got me running late last night:

Holy Moley! I have never lived in a home with a basement, so how does this happen? I read where four people in the NJ area died because they lived in basements and they flooded to quickly, no one could escape. Sorry to hear of this Jim. Didn't realize it rained that heavily.

Too much water too quickly. Add in the slope of my yard, and that's what happens when you get over 6" of rain in a few hours. It just flooded in and there was no way to stop it. Try as quick as you can but mostly just watching shit go down the drain.Originally Posted by gabosaurus

I lost all kinds of tools that were scattered around and on the lower portion of my bench. The hot water heater needs to be replaced now as does a large portion of our HVAC unit. Then the wood from any of the interior walls and 2 doors. A portion of the garage door and the sensors destroyed. Just too much stuff to list and things to be checked out once we can finally get rid of all of the water. Even that, still have like 2-3 feet - but have some larger exterior pumps running as well.

That sounds more like damage from an earthquake than a flood. Is there any way to stop water from entering your basement? Not sure if it is even possible. You can rebuild bigger and better.

Insurance here in NY won't cover floods from natural weather aka an act of God.
If something breaks and causes it then it's covered, but otherwise you're basically on your own, like we are now.

Really? In IL, usually similar to NY law, unless you are in floodplain and do not have that additional insurance policy, the house- not basement is covered. The basement needs a rider, you can choose up to i think 20k in contents..Insurance here in NY won't cover floods from natural weather aka an act of God.
If something breaks and causes it then it's covered, but otherwise you're basically on your own, like we are now.
