Default If you were looking for a house

I look at Redfin listings every day in preparation for eventually moving to New England. Every once in a while, I see decor in a house that makes me think, “Well, that’s a hard pass”.

Among a few other things, I won’t buy a house that has anything I perceive as feeling “evil”. Weird posters, anything even vaguely Satanic, witchy, slasher movie-ish, black walls, overly Gothic, etc. It’s nothing scientific, obviously, but I feel there could be a bad spirit in the house, and I want no part of that.

Anyone else feel that way, or have other maybe more earthly things that would make you say no, regardless how otherwise wonderful the house may be?

I've looked online at houses and then taken a tour. I distinctly remember one house ... the minute I stepped in front door I knew it wasn't the right one. I'm sensitive to odors and this one just smelled "wrong". Not sure it was evil ... just my gut instinct telling me "nope".

My daughter's inlaws do a "clearing" ritual on houses they buy and at least once a year in their house just in case someone brings evil along when visiting.

Bad smells are another thing that will make me say no. I worry they are “in the walls”, etc., and permanent.

Certain houses give off strange vibes.

Interestingly, I lived in a house for 20 years that had someone die in it. Peacefully. Never felt strange vibes. Then my nephew and his SO moved in for a few months and she was really into ghosts. Caught her in basement doing some hoodoo voodoo and I strongly chastised her. I told her that any ghosts in there were pretty happy and for her to not bother them.

Yeah, I’ve seen and felt things in a house, and at Fort Mifflin, a Revolutionary-era fort in Pennsylvania.

I know what you mean about Fort Mifflin. Philly has gotten worse since I was there last. Played a trick on a navy friend of mine back in the 60's there. He was from the Bronx, New York, and we found out how GULLABLE he was. Told him it was haunted. I think it was Mifflin...but he never wanted to go back. That was 1966 on a weekend home from the ship.
I may be older than most. I may say things not everybody will like.
But despite all of that. I will never lower myself to the level of Liars, Haters, Cheats, and Hypocrites.
