Default This all but kills sports for me

Not sure if anyone has been following the story about ESPN getting duped in showing a high school football game.

Was ESPN scammed by a fake high school? The real scandal goes much deeper

    ...

Such is the cost of making a big business out of high school sports, which only figures to grow once college student-athletes really start getting paid. The stakes will be higher, the scrutiny more intense. All the while scores more players figure to be squeezed and discarded for content, not unlike that unnamed linebacker in the No 54 jersey. Yes, Bishop Sycamore was exposed, but the real scam – the professionalization of high school sports – thrives unchecked. Where is the deep dive into that?
I'm against college athletes getting paid but I don't have any reason to exclude them from making money on their likeness or whatever but I think with almost anything related to "amateur" athletics it will result in plenty of adults getting paid and merely a few athletes making any real dollars.
@jimnyc I think you can officially combine the collegiate sports forum with the professional sports forum.

Read about this. Their own damn fault for not doing any background check on the team. They just claimed they had D1 players but didn't, and no one bothered to verify their players.

I'll figure out how to merge them, I see no reason either.

    Laughable, about all it's worth.

First of all, this should not be an indictment of high school sports as a whole. Most high school sports are played by actual kids attending actual schools. But there are a few that are in it for the money. Most are involved in either football or men's basketball, which is where the big money programs. Also involved are the mega million athletic apparel manufacturers, Nike and Adidas, who funnel millions of dollars to schools in deals. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of high schools that exist only to play high school basketball. One school, Oak Hill Academy in Maryland, is an exclusive prep school. They have two separate boys basketball team. One, for boys that attend the school, that plays a local schedule. The other team recruits nationwide for elite athletes. They play teams from across the country and earn millions from sponsorships and appearance fees. These schools are not regulated and do not belong to state associations that regulate actual high schools. ---------------------> By the way, it is not ESPN that got fooled for the most most. ESPN uses an outside company, Paragon Marketing, to arrange its high school sports programming. --------------------> ----------------> It is a fantastic rabbit hole. I teamed with two guys to write a detailed paper while in grad school. It earned a great grade and several threats of law suits. ------------------------> Read for yourself, if you are so interested. ------------------------------>https://www.dispatch.com/story/sports/high-school/football/2021/08/30/bishop-sycamore-high-school-football-game-espn-raises-questions-columbus-ohio-img/5649518001/-------------------------------------------->https://www.duncanvilleisd.org/depar...classic-week-3 ----------------------->
