They're no joke. That venom destroys tissue. A guy I was on a job with way back when had been bitten by one and his lower leg looked like those pics.
I hate spiders. I'm at war with them. Somewhere out front of my house they think they're at home. Wherever "somewhere" is, the big service doesn't get them. They can get all fat dumb and happy as they want and not see me coming back from Home Depot.
Little bastards get in my yard shoes and bite my damned ankle. They must hold on tight when I shake them out before putting them on. I think they're black widows, not brow recluses or I'd be screwed
And if I have to put forth the time and effort to take care of this myself, Terminix can hit the job market. The only reason I have them is so I DON'T have to do it. Paying them to not accomplish the mission isn't working for me.

This spider is one of the reasons I have a fear of spiders. Thankfully they live midwest or the southern US. If here, they were carried here somehow. But it's a bad spider!!
I wouldn't mind like a bee sting, or just some pain. But when a tiny spider does this, and eats and kills your flesh, that's another NOPE.
I might, say might, not be afraid as much if it were like 12"x12", at least I would have a fighting chance of seeing it. But NOPE, it's tiny.
I wish it would be like a bright red or green so it would stand out, but NOPE, just regular brown variety mostly. Just always remember this spider for the future if you don't already:
