Can capture, but pacify? Unlikely. Gonna be long crisis. IF Ukraine can keep airfield.

Protestors can be pacified or eliminated. Armed resistance/guerillas much harder to deal with.

Morale and support. Seriously many of the Russian soldiers were forced to where they are. They were not prepared. This has shadings of problem with it being related to civil wars, much like Christmas game during WWI.

Then there are the logistics of warmer weather, heavy mobiles bogging down; cheap Chinese tires and inability to get them changed out; problems with feeding that long, long line...

By sea they are making war and killing civilians. On the plains, not so much.

I have a feeling that if Russia wholesale gunned down some civilians they would no longer just be fighting Ukranians. For better or worse.

Color me shocked as reading. 'Cheap Chinese tires" by sea; feeding,' and I seriously do not follow military stuff during "normal times."

I'm always skeptical of people. It come down to them. If the people are willing to fight to the end, and Europe and the US at least don't budge, Russia doesn't have a chance in the long run.

However, Putin doesn't appear to be bothered much by facts and history. His judgement appears to be about as good as Hitler's was.

I think this war ends when the Russians -- people and or government -- turn on/oust him. What he is doing to his own people is really not worth his delusions of past grandeur.
