Yeps yeps. Kids see it as a fad, as a way of fitting in, or not fitting in. Something to be recognized. For all the wrong reasons, and then regret starts setting in, and for some, too late.

Then I have read about the "underground", where kids get hooked up with unknown people and are able to get the drugs needed and get the whole gig started. (puberty blockers and such)

Trans doctor who helps teens transition says it’s now ‘gone too far’

A transgender psychologist who has helped hundreds of teens transition has warned that it has “gone too far” — and fears many are making life-changing decisions because it’s “trendy” and pushed on social media.

Erica Anderson, 71 — who is transgender herself — told the Los Angeles Times that she is horrified that even 13-year-old kids are now getting hormone treatment without even meeting with psychologists.

“I think it’s gone too far,” said Anderson, who until recently led the US professional society at the forefront of transgender care.

“For a while, we were all happy that society was becoming more accepting and more families than ever were embracing children that were gender variant.

“Now it’s got to the point where there are kids presenting at clinics whose parents say, ‘This just doesn’t make sense,‘” she said.

Anderson is so concerned, in fact, she said she is considering ending her own pioneering work helping teens transition.

“I have these private thoughts: ‘This has gone too far. It’s going to get worse. I don’t want any part of it,’ ” she said.

Unfortunately, most of the children who are coerced into believing they are of a different sex than the one they were born as end up regretting the gender transition procedures and they are left with permanent physical changes. Despite this, proponents argue that transition procedures, such as hormone blockers and gender reassignment surgery, will decrease the suicide risk for trans individuals. The suicide rate, however, actually stays the same both before and after the procedures.

A 2018 study by HRC showed that transgender youths had an astonishingly high suicide rate pre- and post-transition – 42% which is several times higher than any other cohort. If there is a way to help these individuals – it is not appear to be through transitioning.

The story ..since it's NPR... Is of course sympathetically woke to the concerns of the parents.
One of these parents 1st NOTICED their TWO YEAR OLD leaned toward transitioning and has been "supporting" that ever since.

Lobotomy were very popular medical procedure at one time as well...
