    If this is on the level … hoo boy. Only one previous time in modern history has someone leaked a Supreme Court decision ahead of its release before — and certainly not one this explosive. Politico claims it has a draft of a majority opinion in Dobbs written by Justice Samuel Alito that will overturn both Roe and Casey, ending the 50-year construct of abortion as a constitutional right:

    The Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, according to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito circulated inside the court and obtained by POLITICO.

    The draft opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right. “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes.

    “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” he writes in the document, labeled as the “Opinion of the Court.” “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.” …

    No draft decision in the modern history of the court has been disclosed publicly while a case was still pending. The unprecedented revelation is bound to intensify the debate over what was already the most controversial case on the docket this term.
    Perhaps that should have informed Politico’s decision to print this draft. The leak is so singular in Supreme Court history that it should have prompted editorial considerations as to the motives for leaking the memo in the first place. It seems pretty clear that the leak would create a bigger opportunity for activists to conduct pressure campaigns on the justices involved.

    The more I read and think about this, the worse it looks for the country in the sense that the left seems determined to undermine all government institutions. The press, in this case, Politico, are beyond irresponsible:

    The 67-page opinion, marked as a first draft, declared that Roe was “egregiously wrong and deeply damaging,” and that Planned Parenthood v. Casey, a 1992 decision that limited but didn’t eliminate abortion rights, prolonged the court’s error.

    “Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion,” the draft opinion said. “Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives.”

    The draft, written in February, doesn’t necessarily represent the court’s ultimate decision in the case or even the majority’s current thinking. But it is consistent with the tenor of December’s oral arguments in the case challenging Roe, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, concerning Mississippi’s ban on abortions after 15 weeks. The draft was labeled the opinion of the court, implying a majority of justices had agreed with it.

    The apparent leak represents a nearly unheard of breach of the court’s private, behind-the-scenes deliberations on a blockbuster case the court hasn’t yet publicly issued. It also could threaten longstanding bonds of trust on a court that has already been under ideological and personal strains.

    After an initial vote among justices on a case, Supreme Court decisions can undergo considerable evolution in tone and substance as justices circulate draft opinions for weeks and months. Those drafts are circulated between chambers—with justices typically offering feedback, support and criticism in writing—until the court arrives at a final ruling, which is frequently accompanied by concurring and dissenting opinions that weigh in on the court’s holding.

    Given those internal processes, it’s possible that there are more recent versions of the decision that look different than the draft Politico published. And on occasions, justices can change their positions during deliberations.

    [Since the December arguments in the Mississippi case, many court watchers have been expecting the justices to make significant changes to the legal landscape for abortion, with the only question being whether the court would merely narrow abortion rights or instead overrule constitutional protections entirely.

    Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban would prohibit the procedure far earlier than current Supreme Court precedent allows. Additional states already have been adopting similar bans in anticipation of the court’s decision. Some states have adopted even more stringent restrictions.

    The court’s decision has been expected by the end of June or early July.

    First reaction? Why now? The Republicans are already shooting themselves enough in the foot right before the midterms. Now, a conservative court wants to legitimize the leftwingnut Chicken Little act over abortion that "Republicans want to tear down Roe v Wade. It's like the right has a political suicide pact.

    I agree Roe is bad law. That's NOT how the MSM and leftwingnuts are going to sell it to the peeps, nor would it be how I would. I would be pointing the finger "See? This is what happens when Republicans are in charge". AOC will probably die again

    Very bad timing, IMO. The right needs to learn to prioritize its self-righteousness with its running for election.

    Good luck on that amicable split. The South tried that before. The people that want to control everything would never allow it. Blue states couldn't survive on their own.

    The only one(s) that can change journalism without integrity is We, the People. The majority of We, the People just want more dirt and lies, facts be damned.

    Overlooked by the rabid droolers on the pro-choice side is SCOTUS should have never ruled on this issue to begin with. The hype and lies have turned that simple fact into a hydra. People believe they have a Constitutional Right with Federal protection and taxpayer funding that falls under the Tenth, IMO.

    Back to my original point, can't wait to see how the Republicans screw this up as far as midterms go. While blame is being laid, I'm pretty sure this decision could have been pushed forward past the midterms by SCOTUS.

    Assuming the "leak" is correct, I am looking at a conservative (aka Republican) Supreme Court confirming 60 years of fearmongering from the Dems/left. Those that make money off the institution and those that make money sensationalizing are going to stir the pot as fast and hard as they can.

    I'm tending to economy trumps all. Most people aren't extreme in opinion regarding abortion. As stated by yourself, it will be available.

    Joe Biden: Constitution Gives Right to ‘Abort a Child’ — ‘Mainstream’ Religions Agree with Roe v. Wade

    President Joe Biden further reacted to a leaked draft opinion from the Supreme Court on Tuesday, criticizing the “radical” argument against a constitutional right to abortion.

    “The idea that we’re gonna make a judgment that is going to say that no one can make the judgment to choose to abort a child based on a decision by the Supreme Court I think goes way overboard,” Biden said.

    The president spoke to reporters about the draft opinion as he left Washington, DC, for a trip to Alabama to visit a Lockheed Martin manufacturing facility.

    During his remarks, Biden falsely claimed that all mainstream religions believe the beginning of human life is open to interpretation.

    The president failed to mention that the Catholic Church, of which he claims to be a member, teaches that life begins at the moment of conception.

    Amazon to Reimburse U.S. Employees Who Travel for Abortions

    Amazon reportedly told its staff this week that it will reimburse up to $4,000 in travel expenses every year for medical treatments, including abortions.

    Amazon’s new policy applies if an operation is not available within 100 miles of an employee’s home and virtual care is not possible, according to the company’s message, obtained by Reuters.

    The announcement comes as a Supreme Court opinion overruling Roe v.     ‘Abomination’: Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi Lose It over Leaked SCOTUS Ruling

    Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) sounded off after Politico unleashed its bombshell report indicating the Supreme Court had the votes necessary to overturn Roe v. Wade.

    In a joint statement, Schumer and Pelosi charged that unaccountable conservative justices have “ripped up” the constitution with an “abomination” of decision that has yet to be made official.

    “If the report is accurate, the Supreme Court is poised to inflict the greatest restriction of rights in the past fifty years – not just on women but on all Americans,” the duo said. “The Republican-appointed Justices’ reported votes to overturn Roe v.
