it's was BS then & it's BS Now.
remember the book "the population bomb" came out in the 70s i think.
claimed that by NOW the world would in flames and famine everywhere.
    BS. never happened.

No sale. Overpopulation is not a myth -- at least on my part -- it's an observation. I don't know who else is selling what on the topic. I'm sure it's someone with genocide in mind, disguised as a the "Next Big Climate Change"

It is an observable fact that humans are outgrowing the resources available. It would be highly improbably for Man to outgrow the space available.

Could resources be better managed to accommodate an ever-increasing population v natural resources? Sure. That's about as probable as me growing a full head of hair.

This is a perfect example of what I have against conspiracy theories/theorists. Dismissing the obvious because it doesn't suit the narrative.

Global population is set to level off around 2050 IIRC. Most developed countries have population declines, at least in the native population. The problem will take care of itself.

I have no doubt the problem will take care of itself. One way or the other

I'll also state up front I really don't have much of a dog in this fight. Thinking I'm probably not going to be around. Given current World leadership, I wouldn't bet the farm people will be around long enough to overpopulate the planet.

I'm basing my comments on math, and current population growth on a planet that is not growing at all. Natural resources are finite. The virus called Man is not. Man will consume any and everything, while procreating.

People are stupid. What can I say?

Growth doesn't go on forever. I think they've proven that mathematically??

Consider the number of nuclear weapons on earth. And then consider the rhetoric be it between India and Pakistan or between putin and the West.

Not an expert on the topic, but would you think consider the prime directive is procreate (at least up to Gen Z), growth would have to be stopped by some means?

I really don't consider population growth the main contributor. The ability/means to sustain a population would be as important if not more? Growth is irrelevant to life with no means of sustaining it. Anything in the unsustainable range will just die.

IF the entire Earth was inhabitable, sustainable life is STILL finite to those limitations. The way I look at it, someone has to whip out their algebra and figure out the equation of Man's population vs Man's phenomenal mismanagement of Earth's natural resources.

Problem is, that's an honest question that dishonest people have whored out personal/group gain. To the point that "saving the World" comes in the guise of many industries.

    Just wondering ...

The Russia/Ukraine War is resulting in more than normal deaths on average and the food shortage coming up from sanctions will also reduce population. Factor in a possible nuclear war with the death count and destruction of finite resources and the population problem is pushed back for decades.

When the scientists theorized cannibalism were they thinking we would be eating people who died from diseases? Or will they be harvested based on criminality? Road kill (accidents)? Who do they think will be the food source? Eating dogs would be more palatable and that's just not something I'm on board for.

    The Population Bomb Doomsday Scam
The narrative we’ve been force-fed for decades is being abandoned by its strictest adherents.
...The New York Times put the point even more emphatically in its coverage of this amazing twist of fate, by acknowledging in a headline that the dreaded “population bomb” of the 1960s and ’70s has turned into a global “population bust.”
Beijing has announced that its demographic problem today is too few young people, not too many.
Let us put it even more concisely: the greatest environmental/demographic scare of the second half of the 20th century — overpopulation — is now officially conceded to have been a monumental fraud.

To appreciate what an embarrassing reversal this is for the green movement, consider that 40 to 50 years ago nearly all the scientists, policymakers, U.S. government agencies, and experts at the United Nations told us that rampaging population growth would lead to a Malthusian doomsday with the world in our lifetimes running out of food, energy, and nearly everything else. If ever there were an ironclad “scientific consensus,” this was it.
In their 1967 book Famine 1975!, U.S. government agronomist William Paddock and Foreign Service officer Paul Paddock predicted that population growth would soon lead to such mass starvation in so many nations that triage would be required and that nations like India and Egypt should be written off as “can’t-be-saved.”
Stanford scientist Paul Ehrlich became the most famous academic in the world with his mega-bestseller The Population Bomb and its widely quoted opening sentence: “The battle to feed all of humanity is over. In the 1970s and 1980s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon now.” Ehrlich was Al Gore before there was Al Gore....

...and More LAWS and MORE "global" treaties/agreements.

Simple facts all your trash is ignoring:

The Planet is finite in space and has finite natural resources.

Man is capable of reproducing infinitely in the aforementioned finite space.

Conclusion: Man is capable of overpopulating both finite space and resources.

Try the science instead of the politics

No brainwashing involved in people not needing to have multiple children as an economic decision and deciding to have fewer children.

But that ignores that man makes choices based on scarcity of resources. Man has always done it and will continue to do it.

I could be wrong, but I would guess the number of people making rational decisions on the matter are a small minority. Probably not much bigger than the minority I am referring to: the idiots who think they are what they aren't. The latter requires some serious brainwashing.

I understand the rationale of living within one's means (to include offspring). That reasoning is great if everyone's doing it. I'm not seeing that as any kind of prime reasoning that would have any major affect on population. It is easily offset by other factors, irresponsibility and religion being 2 factors right off the top of my head.

While your reasoning may be correct, that's just not what I'm seeing.

Feminism could slow down or stop population growth. More and more men are wising up to "family" courts. The risk of getting saddled with 20 years old child support and some cases even more in alimony is a big deterrent.
