    Default March Snowmachine Shenanigans

My favorite time of year - blue skies, sun beating down, snow conditions are perfect for going anywhere you want to go.

Yesterday, a local named Patrick and I took a ride up through the Talkeetna canyon and then up Disappointment Creek to see how far we could go. Turns out, quite a ways! Finally got blocked by an avalanche blocking us, so we turned around. Might go build a route past the avalanche and see if we can get above treeline tomorrow.

I was breaking trail, and there was a cavity between big boulders below. It partially collapsed when I went over it, and totally let go when Patrick followed. He hammered the throttle, but it was too late.

It looked pretty grim, but I backed up to him and yanked him out with my sled. Easy peasy!

I don't see two legs and pieces of a machine sticking out of the snow. Jim must not be along

    Not this year!

Darin just left, he brought his kids up for a snowmachine trip to the cabin. Was a lot of fun having them all up.

You let a little avalanche stop you? Get like 20lbs of that Tannerite stuff you get and plug away!!

Blasting with Tannerite would be a lot of fun, for sure... but that blast would trigger a whole lot of other avalanches, probably trapping you up there.

But, yeah... I do need to stock up on that stuff. A guy just doesn't know when that'll come in handy. One of the coolest explosions I've ever seen was here on the 4th of July, a buddy brought up a 2-pound container of it and we blew up a logjam of cottonwood stumps & logs... it was tremendous. Blew those huge cottonwoods apart to kindling and damn near knocked me over 100 yards away!

I don't recall breaking any of the machines yet? But came close, Rick lead me through deep snow and that's where I get stuck. Only way out is to floor that fu**er! Came back towards the main trail where Rick and Joe were already stopped and waiting on me. Came in hot and almost nailed Rick from behind! Woulda served him right as he kept doing that crap. And my dumb ass just kept following him wherever he went, even though he's like a pro and I'm really not even an amateur yet. I'll still gun one up the ramp he had for doing jumps as I couldn't care less if I crashed myself - but thousands of dollars of machinery is a different ball game!

Oh, and I did take a corner too fast and crashed into an ice mound on the said of the road.

Oh, and I also turned it sideways on a make shift track in front of the cabin. Fu**ers are pretty heavy, but once again hit the turn too hard and rolled it on to her side into a pile of snow.

I think that was about it.

Sure, 20 some odd miles later and 3 discs shattered in my lower back, my butt feeling violated. Was a blast actually but was no dang smooth ride. My go pro would have been a good thing to have at the time and you could all see how my brain was rattling.

But look at Rick's machine there in the front. Big ass shock absorbers, heated grips and seat, leg massager & even a recliner built in I think! Probably did feel like a highway cruising that thing!

She really does ride nice, I got a refresher this morning riding a '97 Indy Trail down to town and let my neighbor ride my big boy - won't be doing that again. The older I get, the more I enjoy comfort!

Yeah, the old Indy will still do 90 - 100 mph, but she'll beat your spine something fierce.

What could be more wonderful for a weekend of rest and sightseeing here. Everything seems to go by
