As the warden said, he hasn't converted. He's playing a game.

There is a game in the prison system I call The Get Over Game. Inmates play it by requesting something. Paper, food, a couple of more minutes on the phone. A few more minutes out of their cell. Things like that. everytime they get what they request they have got over. They win. So its time to move to the next request. It's a mental game they play with all the guards to see where the weak points are. A form of intimidation.
