The updated roadmap is designed to prioritize Covid-19 vaccines for those at greatest risk of death and severe disease, according to the World Health Organization’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE).
It is being issued to reflect the Omicron stage of the pandemic and because of countries’ high population immunity levels due to vaccines and infection, the group announced following a recent meeting.

The new streamlined recommendations focus on high-, medium- and low-risk groups.
SAGE recommends additional booster doses of Covid-19 vaccine for high-priority groups such as older people, immunocompromised people of all ages, front-line health workers and pregnant people six or 12 months after their last booster dose.

For those at medium risk, the group recommends primary vaccinations and first booster doses but does not recommend routine additional boosters. This group includes children and adolescents with health risks and healthy adults under the age of about 60.

For healthy kids six months to 17 years old, the group said countries should consider vaccinating based on factors such as disease burden and cost-effectiveness.
“The public health impact of vaccinating healthy children and adolescents is comparatively much lower than the established benefits of traditional essential vaccines for children – such as the rotavirus, measles, and pneumococcal conjugate vaccines,” SAGE said in a press release.

The group said its vaccine guidance is based on current epidemiological conditions and could change if the pandemic evolves.
It also comes as countries are making their own choices about vaccine recommendations based on their vaccine supply and progress....

The Swedish government announced Thursday that it would not be recommending COVID-19 vaccines for children’s ages 5-11 because there is not sufficient evidence that the benefits of the jabs outweigh the risk of infection, according to the country’s health agency.

“With the knowledge we have today, with a low risk for serious disease for kids, we don’t see any clear benefit with vaccinating them,” Health Agency official Britta Bjorkholm said at a news conference on Thursday.

“As before during the pandemic, children are at a significantly lower risk of developing severe COVID-19 disease compared with adults,” the Swedish government added in a press release. “In general, the younger the child, the lower the risk. Since the end of October 2021, the Swedish Public Health Agency has been recommending general vaccination against covid-19 from the age of 12 in Sweden. This is based on the benefit to the individual child.”

“Discussions about the decision have been held with the Pediatricians’ Association, the School Medical Association, the National Association of School Nurses, the Child Psychiatric Association, the Swedish Society for Infectious Diseases, vaccine coordinators within the regions, Swedish Municipalities and Regions (SKR), the Medical Products Agency and the Swedish Medical Council (Smer),” the government added.

The decision comes as states like New York are pushing for all children ages five and up to be vaccinated. My granddaughter lives in NYC ... is a teacher there so she's fully vaccinated. Her daughter, my great granddaughter, is 6. No one else in our family is vaccinated and so we never talk about this with her but I'm pretty sure she's had her vaccinated.

It is unfortunate that more attention is paid to opportunists on the periphery than the elephant in the room killing millions.

More concerning to me is the "Why?" and timing of this sudden covid renaissance. Suddenly I'm reading some places on the East Coast masking up their kids again. Could be coincidence we're 14 months out from next Prez election.
