I love Blur! They're very popular in Europe, but you're right, they're underrated here. The same guy that's the mastermind behind Blur is also the mastermind behind Gorillaz, and they're definitely popular here.

Haven't you ever been exposed to real musicians and real music Dan? This is really pathetic shit. Go back to the 60s through 80s and look around, obviously there is crap from back then also but, there is also a lot of outstanding music....... I just haven't heard much from this decade that even qualifies as good garage band stuff. These will be the years that history says that popular music went silent, non pop and progressive jazz is still good, of course, but you would expect that, they are real musicians.
No matter where I've traveled or how great the trip was, it's always wonderful to return to my country, The United States of America......... me

I wouldn't consider Blur or, especially, Gorillaz "garage bands". I never denied that there was good music in the 60s-80s, only an idiot would. And, yes, I completely agree that popular music with very few exceptions is terrible these days. That doesn't mean good music isn't out there. With the Internet and filesharing, I'd argue that there's much, much more opportunity for new and different music to be heard now than there has ever been. Blur is not pop music, neither is Gorillaz....

I really don't get why somebody has to play 25 minute solos to prove their worth as a musician. But, y'know, any song that doesn't consist of 14/8 time and an extended pan flute solo is obviously "pathetic shit", so what do I know?

Name a band that you would consider a 'garage band', past or near present.
