Default Syria Blocks Russian Evacuation, Sparking Major Military Standoff

Not sure what the point to this is. Let Russia take its stuff and leave.

    ?

Not seeing the comparison. The US chose to leave Afghanistan, regardless means. Russia did not choose to leave Syria. Al-Sharaa pulled the Assad rug out from under Russia's feet.

If al Sharaa wants a deal with Putin, I'm sure there is one to be had, and I don't think this is the way to get it.

Also have to wonder if any such statement was made with Erdogan's blessing. Should Russia decide to use force to remove its assets, that would put Turkey as al-Sharaa's benefactor dangerously close to confrontation with Russia which I doubt Erdogan has any taste for.

Regardless of reason, when leaving plans should be made to secure your stuff, not leave it behind for friend or foe.

As I understand it, Russia is still in possession of its stuff. Russia is still in control of the Naval base where most of it was taken. IIRC, Russia is also in control of one of the air bases. The issue is permission to leave (I assume unopposed) from Syria. Syria for some reason is not granting it.

The one thing I saw that comes even close is al Sharaa isn't interested in completely breaking ties with Russia because most of its military and infrastructure hardware is Russian-made and maintained. Otherwise, it is just my opinion Syrai should hold the gate for Russia while it gets the f- out. That's like trying to be friends with a snake having Russia around.

I haven't seen anything else on the issue.
