okay - Gabby's done her usual drive-by-flame-post...let's get back to discussing Speakers!
“… the greatest detractor from high performance is fear: fear that you are not prepared, fear that you are in over your head, fear that you are not worthy, and ultimately, fear of failure. If you can eliminate that fear—not through arrogance or just wishing difficulties away, but through hard work and preparation—you will put yourself in an incredibly powerful position to take on the challenges you face" - Pete Carroll.

If you have a sealed enclosure, it's not that important. But with like my Infinity Beta 50's, they have a tuned base port in the rear. Even the smaller Beta 20's for surround have a rear tuned port, and I have them away from the wall as well.

Speakers against the wall reflect the bass against the wall. Upolstered furniture absorbs it. This is a frickin' den not a sound lab.

The lamps are heavy brass and don't rattle. I don't listen to music at 150 db anyway since it scares the dog.

My old speaks have high dome tweeters that give excellent sound dispersion. The fact that you can hear both at nearly every position in the room is why I shelled out over 3 bills back then.
    glad you like your system.....

pull them about two feet away......then tune your speakers at a listening chair about 15 feet away......if you have bass and trebel controls tune them to neutral....

I don't have a big enough room to pull them that far out. Anyway, in the Infinity book that came with the speakers, a "foot from the wall, or more" was their recommendation. My listening position is about ten feet away. The new Pioneer receiver I bought, the VSX-1017TXV has auto tune up. I didn't like it. It adjusted the base to the point where the speakers sounded like a transistor radio. I had to redo it manually. I am able to save four different custom set ups in it though, and it also has EQ OFF, ALL CHANNEL DIRECT and FRONT ALIGN. I like my own set up the best.
