Default Gore: Nations must take lead in warming

By DANIEL WOOLLS, Associated Press Writer
    56 minutes ago

MADRID, Spain - Emerging economies such as China are justified in holding back on fighting greenhouse gas emissions until richer polluters like the United States do more to solve the problem, former Vice President Al Gore said Wednesday.

The world's top climate scientists warned in a report last week that global warming was very likely caused by humanity and would last for centuries.

Chinese officials said they would act after industrial countries such as the United States and others make changes themselves, Gore said, addressing a conference in Madrid on global warming.

"They're right in saying that. But we have to act quickly," said Gore, who was nominated last week for a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in drawing attention to global warming.

"China's reaction to the scientific report last week was disappointing, but it was instructive," Gore said.

The United States is the world's leading emitter of greenhouse gas and has refused to ratify the 1997 Kyoto Protocol on curbing such emissions. President Bush contended that it would slow the U.S. economy intolerably and that it should have required reductions by poorer but fast-growing nations, such as China and India.

Gore narrated an hour long slide presentation with graphic evidence of global warming: Antarctic ice shelves cracking and collapsing into the sea, before-and-after shots of glaciers reduced to lakes and small patches of ice, and forecasts of heavily populated land masses such as Florida shrinking drastically if glacial meltdown reaches a worst-case scenario and floods the seas.

"Never before has all of civilization been threatened," Gore said. "We have everything we need to save it, with the possible exception of political will. But political will is a renewable resource."

There are ominous signs that the Earth’s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production – with serious political implications for just about every nation on Earth.

    Who takes Al Bore seriously?

    One day at the Whitehouse--
Mr Al Gore was walking down the hall of the whitehouse when he felt a big urge in his bladder. He ran as fast as possible to the nearest room. He finally reached one. It was Bill's. Al went straight to Bill's Bathroom when he saw the weirdest thing. "Wow", said Al,"a gold plated urinal!!!". Al proudly unzipped and used that urinal greatly.

That morning Al told Tipper, his wife, about the golden urinal. Tipper found it astonishing.

Later that day, when Tipper found herself in a conversation with Hillary Clinton, she brought up the thing about Bill's Golden urinal. Tipper told Hillary all about it. Hillary just replied with an," Oh, Yeah um hum".

That night in bed Hillary lay next to Bill when Hillary brought up that subject, "Bill honey, I think I know who pissed in your saxophone".

al bore aka chicken little, thinks the sky is falling.

The two biggest polluters of the world today are china and india. Neither are signatores of the kyota treaty and both get the free pass from gore and his mellonheads. China intends to build 2100 coal burning electric facilities in the next 20 years. But hey they're good communists so what the hell.

Upstate N.Y. Gets 5 Feet Of Snow

    POSTED: 12:51 am EST February 7, 2007
    UPDATED: 12:45 pm EST February 7, 2007

CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- Two more deaths are being blamed on the wintry blast affecting much of the East.

The latest deaths in Ohio bring the nationwide total from the cold snap to 13.

The cold and blustery conditions have contributed to at least four deaths in Ohio, two in Illinois, two in Kentucky, two in Michigan, and one each in Wisconsin, Maryland and Indiana, authorities said

The conditions have led to school closings, flight cancellations, slick roads and chain-reaction accidents from Minnesota to New York.

Some parts of New York state along the shores of Lake Ontario have received more than five feet of snow over a two-day period.

Sixty-two inches of snow was measured in Oswego, 35 miles north of Syracuse.

Forecasters said some areas could see 100 inches or more before the system breaks up, which isn't expected until at least the weekend.

It's winter. That means it gets cold and snows. Weather isn't the same as climate... although I'm sure you'll learn that next year in 3rd grade.

Arctic cold wave in US dumps heavy snow in northeast

An Arctic cold wave gripping the central and northeastern United States is dumping heavy snow in New York and other states near the Great Lakes, the National Weather Service said.
"It's still pretty darn cold" in the mid-section of the country and the east, particularly in the northeast, Dennis Feltgen, an NWS meteorologist, told AFP.

Temperatures are 10 to 20 degrees (Fahrenheit) below normal in the frigid front that moved in last week and was expected to last through the weekend, he said.

The big chill is roaring in from "the Arctic door wide open," he said. Relief should come by early or mid-week next week when the air flows shift, bringing in warmer air from the Pacific.

Temperatures this winter, though unseasonably cold, are "not record-breaking," he said.

The harshest cold weather on Wednesday was in the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois, he said.

Lake-effect snow, produced by cold air blowing over the warmer Great Lakes, had dumped "big snows," he said.

In Oswego, New York, lake-effect snow was expected to drop between six to 10 inches (15-25 centimeters) during the day. CNN television network reported that 62 inches (158 centimeters) had fallen in the past five days in the city on the eastern end of Lake Ontario.

In Chicago, a high temperature of near 15 degrees F (minus nine Celsius) was forecast, with a wind-chill factor bringing it to between minus five and zero.

The Windy City, on the shores of Lake Michigan, saw scores of road accidents -- from fender-benders to 30-vehicle pileups -- Tuesday on slick roads, the Chicago Tribune newspaper reported. At least one death was attributed to icy roads.

The influence on the US of a moderately strong El Nino, which had an unusual warm winter in many states, has weakened in the last few weeks, he said.

Oh for crying out loud! China and India are two of the biggest polluters on the planet!

Has anyone heard of the Asian brown cloud problem? Did you know, that in many cities throughout Asia, the sun is obscured even on the brightest, sunniest day?

Kyoto exempts China and India (the former country, I have only now read, is planning on building 2,200 coal fired plants).

Kyoto is estimated to cost at least $14 Trillion dollars to implement and it won't begin to address the "problem" of global warming. That does not even mention that there still is wide spread disagreement over the CAUSE of global warming.

You may believe that global warming is real, or you may believe it isn't, but there is one thing that is undeniable. If Kyoto is implemented, the effect on the world economy will be dire. I'll go so far to predict that a global depression will be a consequence of implementing Kyoto. And that isn't a stretch, considering that the cost of implementing Kyoto may cost as much as 20% of global GDP.

How many people died as a result of the Great Depression? And how many people may die from global warming? I don't think the numbers are even close.
