I can understand the sentiment...kinda. I don't think I'd want a chick screening me for prostate or testicular cancer...

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself."
Tullius Cicero (106-43 BC)
I've had just the opposite experience of Fuzzy. Several years ago, I had a female gyn who was very unkind in every way. I switched to the male gyn I have now, and he is very gentle and a very compassionate soul. On the other hand, I switched from a jerk male PCP to a female, and she is a dream. As in most areas of life, it's an individual thing. One thing I learned the hard way: Don't waste any time with a doctor who treats you poorly or disrespectfully in anyway. There are others out there with whom you will feel more comfortable.
I'm just glad I'm a man and don't have to deal with any of it. "Periods"...
However, I do think you should be able to choose the sex of your doctor. I did at the V.A. If males in Sweden or anywhere else are aware that they may not be as requested as their female counterparts, then DON'T GET INTO IT if that bothers you.
I'm with Abbey. Male doctors delivered both of my children and were both very kind and comforting. I did however, have a couple of nasty female nurses and both of the men that gave me my epiderals were awful. I think you have good and bad with both sexes. Go with the "person" you feel comfy with, not necessarily the sex.
I do feel however, choosing your own doctor is something you should be allowed to do.
