Which do you prefer and why?

I know for my family, me and the kids prefer the Dog - the wife leans a bit more to the cat but still likes our dog as well..

I think dogs are the quintessential kid pet..

We have a dog.

My husband and oldest son are allergic to cats.

I grew up with cats and used to really love them, but after having a dog, I have to admit I like dogs more. There is no litter box, huge plus IMO, and a dog will play with the kids instead of just ignoring them.

Cats much more. I like their independent nature and the fact they can purr. You can't leave a dog home alone for a week if you take a trip. Not to mention my dog stinks of dog and snorts and snores otherwise I like her just fine.
