Geno's: When Ordering Speak English

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― The Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations is holding a public hearing to address a controversial sign at the popular Geno's Steaks that has gained national attention.
The hearing was scheduled after allegations were made accusing Geno's Steaks of discrimination for posting a sign that reads: "This is America. When ordering speak English."

Geno's owner Joey Vento said it is "free speech."

"Since we have a little problem in the country with the language, it is also telling people at Geno's Steaks, all we speak is English," Vento said.

Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations (PCHR) does not see it that way and alleges Geno's is in violation of the Philadelphia Fair Practices Ordinance - Chapter 9 Section 9-1105 (A) (1) (b) of The Philadelphia Code.

The commission believes the sign discourages patronage by non-English speaking customers.

"Individuals who operate in a place of public accommodation cannot post signage or express messages that might have the resulting affect of making any group, any ethnicity, and any national origin person feel unwelcome," said Nick Taliaferro, Human Relations Commission.

The message I would have for Mr. Taliaferro would be, "It is my shop, my revenue and my right, Mr. Taliaferro. If you don't like it, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out and as a parting gift, here's a Philly Cheesesteak to go."

The fact is no one has been turned down service. If someone cant speak english, Joey will teach them how to do it in English so that they can do it in the future. The man is doing a public service and they want to screw him because its not publically correct.

Its simply a steak wit at Pats, been there, it means you get a cheesesteak with kraft cheesewhiz and fried onions, the fried onions are not an option, if you don't like them you scrape em off.

I love that place because if you ain't ready to order when its your turn you don't get time to look at the menu and hem and haw, Pat tells you to take your ass to the back of the line and yells "next!"

Isn't there a fucking rule about posting people's phone numbers on the board? Whether you agree with a person or group or not probably shouldn't post a phone number Raymond.

I know if someone posted my number here just for the point of harrassment somebody is going to have a problem.
