Thumbs up The New Toy, Samsung BD-P1400 Blue Ray Disc Player...

The thing I immediately noted was the load time required for a high definition disc. It's longer than a regular DVD. Am I blown away? Not entirely. My Denon DVD-1920 was a very nice DVD player, and upscaled movies to 1080i through it's Faroudja DCDi video engine, one of the best made. But, yes, the picture coming off a disc with 1080i resolution upscaled to 1080P is warmer, fuller, and has more detail than that coming off a disc with 480i and being upscaled to 1080i, considering a 1080i picture has 540 lines of resolution alternately being displayed, while in comparison 1080P has all 1080 lines of resolution being displayed all at once, and the 1080i Blue Ray disc has billions of colors, while a regular 480i DVD has only millions. I'm very glad I have it. The Samsung is quite a nice machine, and I've been impressed with Samsung's quality. The model above mine has HQV video processing, which is "Hollywood Quality Video." I'm not convinced it's that much better. You can reach a point to where your eye can't determine differences once they become so minute. I think I've reached somewhat of an apex for picture quality. I'll have to see what the future brings as far as upgrades. 3D... now that will be cool.

(Kind of hard to get a good picture of something that has a shiny finish...)

Hey, have you run into not being able to find a movie on BD that was on HD DVD yet?

Me either, I guess. Since I've been buying DVD's, my collection is about 135 movies so far. Two of which are now Blue Ray.

Fuck... look at that big finger print on the Samsung. Didn't even know it was there until I took that picture. Better wipe it off. Can't have that.
