When the same people claim the sky is falling every time the wind changes direction, people are naturally going to be skeptical. For every one thing proven true, there are still those other tens of thousands of "theories" out there that have not been.
We are allegedly a Nation of laws and the law requires proof. Hearsay is not proof and not admissible in court.
Unfortunately for us all, there are those who undermine the law itself by abusing its parameters to commit their crimes. It may not be perfect but it's better than having witch trials.
