Default So .... landing on the moon after 50 years

Doesn't it seem odd that our first attempt to land on the moon went so well that our guys got out and took pictures and even made it home safe and sound and yet 50 years later we can't get any vehicle to complete a successful landing.

I haven't looked into the moon thing as much as other issues. my general take is this.
If there was anything on the moon worth the cost & risk of going there ..again.. there would have been multiple corporations funding it since the 60s.

my less conventional optional thoughts of wondering "did we really ever go to the moon" are often canceled by other side of the less conventional thoughts that says "aliens are BS but the gov't has secret tech space craft & have base(s) on the dark side of the moon".

the only part of those options that i'm really convinced of is that Aliens are BS.

Another one of those conspiracy theories that over looks the obvious that it would take a cast of thousands to pull off. Even in 1969, you couldn't get that many people to keep their mouths shut.

On the lighter side, I watched the moon landing live, in "living" B&W

There never was any money in going to a lifeless rock. It was about prestige. JFK decided we had to beat the Russians to it. Never been impressed by the space program myself.

IF I was to guess, I'd say the purpose is strategic. Whoever can set up a functional military base on the Moon has strategic advantage.

They didn't land people. If we wanted to land people it would have cost eleventy trillion dollars and would have greatly increased the likelihood of success.
