It is proper to take alarm at the first experiment on our liberties. The freeman of America did not wait till usurped power had strengthened itself by exercise, and entangled the question in precedents. James Madison

    Judge Napolitano:
"I told Trump, 'you promised you would release the records of the JFK assassination.'
He said to me 'If they showed you what they showed me, you wouldn't have released it either.'
I said 'Who's they? What did they show you?'
    Trump said '
Someday when we're not on the phone and there aren't 15 people listening to the call, I'll tell you.

“The Communists’ chief purpose is to destroy every form of independence —independent work, independent action, independent property, independent thought, an independent mind, or an independent man. Conformity, alikeness, servility, submission and obedience are necessary to establish a Communist slave-state.”

    Ayn Rand always gets me
    rambling ...

Communism puts the STATE in place of God. and since the state isn't God it cannot grasp the idea of Unity, Diversity in Freedom set in the frame of realities boundaries.
God created an ecosystem were there are a multitude of kinds of flowers, birds, fish, all working freely in combination with bees, bacteria, crabs, trees, grasses bears etc. Creating living thriving cycles.
in a FIXED framework/stage were Air, Water, Gravity, light, gender, physics (+ for humans Morals) all creates boundaries where all the diversity can work out the various details.

Freedom & diversity within God given boundaries.

What all -isms- claim to point to are some aspect of life that everyone aspires too. But they often OVER focus on one or 2 areas and think that others areas should be sacrificed... for the greater good... .
Communism isn't popular because of it's bad aspects or outcomes, it's popular because it promises a good. That everyone will be "taken care of".
Surveillance isn't allowed or embraced because people like it but because it promises people safety.
Racism isn't always embraced because people 'hate' those who are different/diversity, it's but because it strokes people's egos, plays on our needs for the familiar & promises people safety.
Hedonism isn't always embraced because people 'hate' boundaries, many are searching for fulfillment socially, physically & through mind trips via drugs and drink.

    etc etc

All the tracks are in some way spiritual tracks where people are , as the Bible says "drawn away by our own lust/desires and enticed".
And where people are looking at what their natural inclinations lead them to when looking for the greater good.

Some people generally think UNITY and CONFORMITY are the the foundations of prosperity. The more unity and conformity the better. The more rules the better. ... sometimes it's expressed in gated communities where folks can't even paint their mailbox without permission. Or even in a sense that a nation should be more like the military everyone should conform to the leadership and obey or are force to obey, jailed or cast out.

Other people lean towards more FREEDOM. & the idea that Expressions of group & individual uniqueness are the greatest aspects of humanity to the point of thinking they can be any gender they want, there are no boarders, that they can live any way they want, and there should be no real consequences. Where sameness is considered is boring, oppressive & anti human.

Ayn Rand's spin was that she thought the individual uniqueness of those who are best able to harness aspects of physical reality are the best of humanity. without regard to any community other than those who contribute to survival & progress. Everyone else are supposed to say thank you & or STHU & stay out of the way of those who do. And no one should help anyone except on the basis of merit or potential merit or cash payment.

But it seems to me God created a world of freedom, diversity & integrated unity in a framework of physical, mental, moral & spiritual boundaries.

Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.

You can sway a thousand men by appealing to their prejudices quicker than you can convince one man by logic.

Secrecy is the keystone to all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy and censorship. When any government or church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, "This you may not read, this you must not know," the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man who has been hoodwinked in this fashion; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, whose mind is free. No, not the rack nor the atomic bomb, not anything. You can't conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him.

Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.

    ....

No experiment can be more interesting than that we are now trying,
and which we trust will end in establishing the fact, that man may be governed by reason and truth.
Our first object should therefore be, to leave open to him all the avenues to truth.
The most effectual hitherto found, is the freedom of the press.
It is, therefore, the first shut up by those who fear the investigation of their actions.

    Thomas Jefferson

The Government's power to censor the press was abolished
so that the press would remain forever free to censure the Government.
The press was protected so that it could bare the secrets of government
and inform the people. Only a free and unrestrained press can effectively expose deception in government.
    ....

Freedom to publish means freedom for all and not for some.
Freedom to publish is guaranteed by the constitution but freedom to continue to prevent others from publishing is not.

    ....

The Press was protected so that it could bare the secrets of the government and inform the people. Only a free and unrestrained press can effectively expose deception in government. And paramount among the responsibilities of a free press is the duty to prevent any part of the government from deceiving the people.

    ....

The First Amendment's language leaves no room for inference that abridgments of speech and press can be made just because they are slight. That Amendment provides, in simple words, that "Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press." I read "no law . . . abridging" to mean no law abridging.

    ....

The word 'security' is a broad, vague generality whose contours should not be invoked to abrogate the fundamental law embodied in the First Amendment. The guarding of military and diplomatic secrets at the expense of informed representative government provides no real security

    ....

It is my belief that there are "absolutes" in our Bill of Rights, and that they were put there on purpose by men who knew what words meant and meant their prohibitions to be "absolutes."

    ....

The press was to serve the governed, not the governors.

    Hugo Black
    Supreme Court Justice
