    Default Are insurance companies sexist

Most insurance companies don't cover female birth control but do cover stuff for guys like viagra and other ed meds. Are they sexist, why should womans health take a backseat. they'd hafta pay way more for a pregnancy than the pill. Also the new gardisal vaccine isn't covered by many either. if it was a disease that effected men so bad, would it be.

    Yes, they are sexist.

If Gardisal is the vaccine that prevents some cases of cervical cancer, then the reason I think they have not covered it yet is because some leaders like the governor of Texas want to make it mandatory for kids to get it, which means the government will be funding the vaccine and the Insurance companies wanted to see how this played out before offering to cover it perhaps?

But who knows, the reason could be sexist too?

It's has been this way forever it seems, to someone older, like me.

A good patients Bill of Rights could help maybe....? But the best way to solve this is to get women in the executive, decision making levels of these companies!

That is a touchy subject. I think that Gardisal is a good idea but I also can see why people are opposed to it............

Ahhhhhh, as stupid as it sounds, women have paid less for car insurance forever....... how ridiculous is that? There are a lot of bad male drivers but there are so many clueless, airheaded women that drive like they are sitting in their living room talking on the phone........ and they do that at 85 miles an hour in topheavy SUVs!

I have yet to see or have insurance that didn't cover the pill. None of them have covered Viagra.

If anything I've seen them be sexist toward the males. At least in car ins. Males have a higher rate. Same on life ins.

Shrugs, the insurance we have as well as all the chicks I know can't get it covered without doc approval saying it's for a valid medical reason besides just preventing pregnancy.

Please elaborate. I would love to hear your reasoning. I'm sure everyone else would as well.

Interesting. The major ins companies I've dealt with (Kaiser, Providence, FHP, Aetna, and many more) all have covered it. I'm in Oregon and for low income families we offer OHP (Oregon Health Plan) and birth control is covered 100% by us (after all my tax dollars pay for this program).

Because 'the pill' - or ANY controceptive is a luxory - NOT mandatory, nor a right.
“… the greatest detractor from high performance is fear: fear that you are not prepared, fear that you are in over your head, fear that you are not worthy, and ultimately, fear of failure. If you can eliminate that fear—not through arrogance or just wishing difficulties away, but through hard work and preparation—you will put yourself in an incredibly powerful position to take on the challenges you face" - Pete Carroll.

Who knows, I'd guess cuz it provides lots of nice benifits like regulating your periods, reducing pms and cramps, and like the pill I'm on makes it so you only hafta have like 2 periods a year.

The best solution would be for the government not to mandate any type of specific coverage in health insurance, so companies could give consumers the types of coverage they demanded - like the pill, for example.

And the pill does have a good effect on regulating periods, but you shouldn't be on it for more than about 7-8 years at a time.
