Watsonville woman chases, catches trio suspected of stealing $100K in jewelry

WATSONVILLE — A woman whose Mountain View Road home was burglarized Wednesday spotted the suspected burglars when they returned to her neighborhood, followed them and blocked their sport utility vehicle in with her own car while she waited for sheriff’s deputies to arrive.

Deputies arrested the three occupants of the gray 2003 Chevy Tahoe on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy, but the woman did not get back the 50 pieces of jewelry worth an estimated $100,000 that were taken from her home, Sgt. Fred Plageman said.

It all started just before 1 p.m. when the woman, who was not identified, returned home to see a man running out of her house and jumping into a gray SUV driven by a teenage girl, Plageman said. The woman called 911, but the vehicle sped away and the suspected burglars were gone when deputies arrived.

Around 3:40 p.m., the woman called 911 again because she’d spotted the vehicle again in her neighborhood, chased it and trapped it at 1040 Amesti Road while she waited for sheriff’s deputies. Deputies arrested the driver, Ruben Vargas Tavera, 23; and two passengers, Juan Tavera, 20, and a 16-year-old girl. The woman told deputies Juan Tavera was the man she saw running from her house and that the girl was driving the get-away vehicle then, according to Plageman.

Ruben Tavera was also arrested for a probation violation. Deputies reported he was previously convicted of stealing a car in Sacramento

    See ya

Not that everyone needs to stand up if they absolutely feel their life is in danger (just goods afterall) but if more people did this, like in the days of old with (imagine the ol farmer with a shotgun) then a lot less punks would thinking about commiting these crimes.

I for one am taking out my pitchfork from its case ...

Saw this after I read the above, only goes to prove my point:

WATSONVILLE — Four juveniles are behind bars after an armed robbery Wednesday.

Police say four young men, ages 15-17, used a knife to commit a robbery at the Discount Mall at 347 Rodriguez St. about 6 p.m. and fled in a silver Toyota Camry.

Ten minutes later, officer David Rodriguez spotted the car just five blocks from the mall on Union Street, their getaway route passing by the police station toward Riverside Drive. Rodriguez stopped the car, carrying four male juveniles, near the intersection of Riverside and Main.

One of the juveniles jumped out of the car and ran but was captured a short distance later with the help of a Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office sergeant.

All four of the juveniles were arrested for armed robbery. Two also were arrested for resisting arrest and accessory to a felony. All were taken to Juvenile Hall.

The communities need to stand up. Stop relying so much on police. To be fair though, we have been so whipped by the authorities because anyone who dares try to stop injustice is labeled a vigilante. Time for that to stop, they should be called heroes.
