Default Barbara Bova: If Hillary wins get ready for some interesting changes

The bets are in. Pundits say that Hillary Clinton will be our next president. I’m thinking as a Republican and a woman that having Hillary for president might be just what the doctor ordered. She might be able to accomplish changes that no man in office could ever do.

With a female moderate in office, abortion will no longer be on the front burner. The expression, “little woman” will be erased from the minds of not just men, but women. If Hillary wins, it will bring a new status to women. But most of all, women will begin to raise their daughters with a different attitude about their roles in the world.

For instance, using Hillary as a role model instead of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, young girls may realize they don’t have to get pregnant to hold on to their man. Hilary had one child in wedlock and went on to achieve other goals with her life. Feminine ambition could replace male machismo. Girls from all walks of life may finally realize there are alternate lifestyles other than becoming baby factories. Once women see themselves in a new light so will their male counterparts.

Marriage might come back into style. Women may demand commitment from their bed-partners. Husbands can be useful to an ambitious woman even when they’re rotters. Or, as the saying goes, use them before losing them. Hillary had a philandering husband but she didn’t do what most women do. She used her brains instead of her emotions. She stayed the course and made her plans. If every unhappy woman would think before she jumps out of a marriage, there would be fewer poor women. Taking time to think ahead and protect her interests before splitting serves a woman well.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself."
    Tullius Cicero (106-43 BC)
