Well, sensible people will always see your view as isolationist masochism.

Sensible people will realize that the UN would cease to function without American money and American support.

And I'm far from an isolationist. I'm probably the staunchest supporter of free trade around here. I support interaction with other countries through trade, not additional layers of government and bureaucracy.

No conformity with international law- no trade. Security Council resolution-in-waiting.

It carried on just fine during the lengthy period that the US refused to pay its dues.

No one will stop trading with America, potential UN resolution or not. It's the richest country on earth. And even if they did pass a resolution, so what? How are they going to enforce it?

How are trade restrictions enforced now ? It's ridiculous, mind, to even dwell upon the notion of the US ever cutting off its Security Council nose to spite its hegemonic face.

The WTO, for most countries. But you don't even need that. A country simply needs to drop all tariffs, unilaterally, and voila, they can expect to see an increase in imports.

And leaving the UN has nothing to do with increasing American hegemony. It has everything to do with limiting the influence of government (in this case, international government) over Americans.

    The WTO, for most countries.
You want the WTO to survive without international law ?

And leaving the UN has nothing to do with increasing American hegemony.
I was actually implying that hegemony was one of the US Security Council perks.

International law is merely a treaty agreement between signatory countries. So is the WTO. So yes, the WTO could survive without international law.

Yeah, the US's veto certainly does good, but only in the sense that the US still submits itself to the UN's authority. If we weren't a part of the UN, they could pass all the resolutions they wanted, but they would have no effect on America.

So yes, the WTO could survive without international law.
Sure. 'The recently WTO agreed shipments of x from group A to group B has been stolen by group C pirates' Who would give a toss ? Piracy is the new law.

they could pass all the resolutions they wanted, but they would have no effect on America.

Much like Hamas, thanks for proving the point of the ineffectiveness of 'international law.'
