The biggest reason is that it won't do anything to lower gas prices or reduce our dependence on foreign oil. OPEC produces about 40% of the worlds oil. OPEC can adjust their output of oil to adjust the price of oil. We wouldn't produce enough oil to make a difference for another 30 years or so in this country alone.
So now it is another 30 years, lets see when this debate started in 2001 it was 7 - 10 years. Hmmm it is now 2009, well if the drilling had been allowed we would now have known wouldn't we. The whole time thing is just another delaying tactic. Keep extending the time and you never have to prove it.
